Pregnant Gisele Bundchen, who is expecting her first child with husband Tom Brady, appears almost nekkid in a sexy new London Fog ad campaign but her baby bump is nowhere to be found. According to a press release from the company, "…Most of the shots have been retouched to respect her privacy during this wonderful and personal time in her life.” Although, curiously, the statement then goes on to read, “Nobody is sexier or more beautiful than Gisele Bundchen in nothing but a London Fog trench coat, even with her visible baby bump."
Which leaves me with two questions:
1) If nobody is sexier than a pregnant Gisele Bundchen, why Photoshop her pregnant belly?
And
2) What kind of lame ass airbrushing job is that?
When I first saw this shot, I said to myself, "That is one seamless bodysuit!" Because I make it a habit of commenting on the garments of supermodels. Out loud. But then I realized that she was naked and the area below her belt was where she had been retouched, and then I said to myself, "That is one terrible retouching job." I didn't ask that question out loud, only in my head with all the other dark thoughts.
(I won't bash the retoucher too much more, although suffice to say
even my 11-year-old would know to use the clone tool to give that belly
area some skin texture. Okay, maybe then she'd put a big Hello Kitty face on it, but still it would look better than this.)
I think the decision to retouch was a bad one. Seeing a slight baby bump could have elevated this photo from just another beautiful, sexy woman wearing a trench coat to one of a beautiful, sexy, pregnant woman wearing a trench coat, which would have been far more interesting. I'm not talking about an octomom-sized, just-about-to-burst, nine-month belly, but Bundchen couldn't have been showing much when these shots were taken, so why not leave it in? Hey, pregnant women buy trench coats, too! Even though I wore mine with jeans that had elastic panels.
