MTV's show Teen Mom, which is quite possibly the exact opposite of their other big reality offering Jersey Shore, is gearing up for its third episode. Our teen moms, Maci, Farrah, Catelynn, and Amber are still having a rough go of things.
Amber in particular is struggling with her relationship with her fiance, Gary. Amber is anxious about obtaining her GED and moving forward in life and doesn't feel that Gary is supportive. They seem to have consistent problems communicating and Amber's patience with Gary's constant bewilderment has completely run out.
When Amber can't reach Gary on the phone to tell him that she needs him to pick him up from her dad's, she snaps.
What starts as a fairly routine argument, quickly disintegrates into a physical altercation when Gary speaks disrespectfully to Amber's father.
I can understand Amber's outrage toward Gary. He seems rather disinterested in their family. But Amber smacking Gary, particularly in front of Leah, is disturbing. Just because Gary's a big guy doesn't make what she did anything less than domestic abuse. I know that the episodes so far have shown her struggling with some emotional problems and seeking medication for them, so I'm hoping that they were able to recover from this. She mentioned in my interview with her that their relationship was doing much better, so I'm hoping that physical abuse is no longer an issue for either party.
MTV also has a particularly upsetting sneak peek of an argument between Catelynn, her mother, and her stepfather. While Catelynn and her mother have reconciled, Catelynn's stepfather continues to be antagonistic toward her about her decision to place baby Carly with an adoptive family. Catelynn once again finds herself alone against her parents when her mother, as Catelynn says, chooses Butch over her.
