MamaPop Sparklecorn 2010: Director’s Cut

This morning? You get the whole shebang.

And what a shebang it is. Boy howdy.

When MamaPop’s resident photographer, Ryan Marshall of Pacing The Panic Room, previewed the completed video below for me last night, I’m not ashamed to say I quite literally cried the first time I watched it. Since then, I’ve probably watched it two dozen times (OCD much?), and I’ve been thinking quite a bit about why it brought me to tears. My conclusions?

1. To my mind, this video perfectly captures the fruition of an honest-to-god labor of love that both Amy and I worked hard for months to bring to life, and that gives me unadulterated warm fuzzies;

2. It shows a bunch of women together, uninhibited and joyful, dancing their asses off and letting loose completely — and when do you see that, really? (not often enough, as far as I’m concerned);

3. You, the party people who were in the hizzouse, are freaking rock stars, SERIOUSLY. I want to take you all home and cuddle with you and make you all be my BFFs (hair-braiding and pillowfights at my house tonight, y’all!).

But enough of my mush — I could go on for days like this, and I’ll spare you that particular horror. Major props again to the amazing ladies at BlogHer, without whom none of this would’ve been possible, for real.

    Wow, that was something else. Getting Ryan to do that for y’all was a stroke of absolute genius; what a talent! I’m so thrilled I made it on the video that I can’t stand it, even if doing that worm makes me need to have my neck and back realigned (doing the worm at 39, always a risk, always worth it).
    Thanks for the party! It kicked so much complete ass that I cannot wait for next year.

    Last year, Sparklecorn scared the dickens out of me. I was alone and angsty like only a first year BlogHer attendee can be. I didn’t even RSVP for it this year.

    But they let me in anyway, bless them. And I was about to order a drink when Jay-Z’s Empire State song came on. And I love that song. And LesbianDad said, “I love this song!” And the next thing I knew we were running to the dance floor, ditching our electronics with perfect strangers, and dancing like crazy people.

    I certainly meant to dance only to that one song. But I might have been there for more like, um, ten. Thank you, Sparklecorn people and BlogHer. It was perfect.

    Umm, how fun to see these comments. Mamapop let me loose on a party with my camera and it is always so much fun. The Mama Pop writers are such an insanely funny group of people to be around and they have such great energy that I feel so lucky to get to be a part of this party, and then the crowd shows up to dance, and it just all explodes. So rad!

    I must say that I have major Unicorniphobia and was hesitant to attend this party (I still may never recover from the unicorn cake) but once I heard the rockin’ music and saw all the awesomeness on the dance floor, I knew I had found home. So glad the video guy got me shakin’ it like a Polaroid picture! What a blast that night was!!!
