Movies That Show You’re Screwing Up Your Labor

grocery cart Movies That Show You’re Screwing Up Your LaborThere I was, in line to check out at the grocery store minding my own business, when up came a store employee holding a mop. “Excuse me,” he said with an odd smirk, pointing at my feet.  I was standing, inexplicably, in  a puddle.  It was a perfect puddle, with no traces of having arrived from anywhere. I wondered if I had reached the age where I occassionally lost bladder control without realizing it. I may have wondered this aloud, as I have definitely reached the age of wondering aloud.

It turns out it wasn’t me. It was the woman whose water had broken. That’s the sort of place water breaks – in the grocery store. I know this because I watch movies.

What made me think of this? It’s Labor Day, silly. So here are a couple movies that I blame for making my own labor seem so terribly, terribly long in comparison.

Amy Poehler in Baby Mama:

Nine Months is one of those movies I caught on tv, missing the title.  Thank goodness for Google – and thank goodness most of the stuff that came up was not what I was looking for. Dear Lord, my retinas.

I think her water broke in a restaurant.

And then of course there’s Juno, which I haven’t seen but I do have from Netflix  (I’m sorry if you’ve been waiting for it). I think we’ve had it for a year and a half, making it the most expensive movie rental ever.

I’m leaving Rosemary’s Baby out of this line up.

But! I will leave you with my most favorite pregnant in the grocery store moment of all times. (click the photo to go to Jane’s Addiction video)

In fact, maybe this is who was in line ahead of me, and he just sprung a leak. We may never know.

Happy Labor Day.
