Flashback Friday – Say Anything

Tomorrow is Ione Skye’s 39th birthday. And while I can take some comfort in the fact that I’m younger than she is, John Cusack never held a boom box up to my window. Ione Skye wins.

John Cusack Say Anything Flashback Friday – Say Anything

Seriously, who didn’t want to be Diane Court? “Say Anything” was the teen romance movie that was real enough that we could actually picture ourselves as its heroine, whether we were valedictorian material or not. A cool, witty guy who’s hell bent on getting to know the beautiful, reserved intellectual? Totally dreamy. Plus, it’s got that whole daddy’s girl angle so many of us struggled with in adolescence: Please Daddy, or please ourselves.

Also, I would totally do it in a car with John Cusack whether my father approved or not.

Another reason “Say Anything” is timeless — it’s so quotable. I routinely tell my kids, “You must chill!” which I freely admit to stealing from this movie. I still love that bought-sold-processed explanation, even though I can never keep it straight. The dialogue between Lloyd and Diane is a little over the top at times — dudes, you’re in high school — but they’ve nailed the teen-angst, no-perspective angle that we all remember, if reluctantly.

Happy birthday, Ione. You may have had John Cusack, but you’re still older (okay, and prettier) than me.

Source and source.

Julie still wants a guy to hold a boom box up to her window.

About Julie

Julie hates celebrities and all that they stand for, which makes it all the more entertaining for her to snark about them.

Whatever happened to Ione? I’m worried she’s turning down good parts so she can stay home and wave out her window as dudes drive by her house blaring Peter Gabriel in her honor.

That song “In Your Eyes” always reminds me of a certain someone with whom…ok, fine, we did it. To that song. More than once. It’s a good song for that. It’s probably also a great song to listen to while washing the dishes, but I’ll stick to the sexytimez.

Also, if I ever got the chance to do John Cusack (I know, keep dreaming, right?), I would want that song to be on.

I’d do him. He’s gotten even better with age. :~D

Oh – *ahem* – this was about a movie, wasn’t it?

    Yes. LOVE this movie. LOVE.

    The song? Exquisite. Timeless. Perfection.

“I don’t want to sell anything, buy anything, or process anything as a career. I don’t want to sell anything bought or processed, or buy anything sold or processed, or process anything sold, bought, or processed.”

    Long live Lloyd Dobler.

According to IMDb, she’s the big 4-0 tomorrow. But of course we all stop @ 39, don’t we? :)

    Sharon, Actually that’s a great idea! (I turned 40 in May… but screw that, I’m 39, dammit! ;))
