As we get ready to ring in 2011, here is my list of the pop cultery (it is to a word!) things that I loved in 2010. In no particular order:
1. My iPad-My mom gave this to me for my 35th birthday and I do not know how I ever lived without it. I play games, watch movies, answer emails, and read books. Yes, it is just like my laptop and my iPhone but not quite and so much better. For everyone who thinks you don’t really need one, you don’t. But once you get one you will love it and never want to be without it. Sometimes I have to fight my 5 year old for it. “It is not your iPad” is heard frequently in our house. Plus, it is much easier to play Angry Birds on the iPad than on the iPhone. And if 2010 was anything, it was the year of Angry Birds.
2. One Day-Man I loved this book. I’ve already gushed about it once, so I won’t do it again. But every time someone asks me for a book recommendation my answer is quite simply: READ ONE DAY. You will not be disappointed. I have not had a book touch me like that in a very long time.
3. Life Unexpected-I found this show late, and I’m distraught it has been canceled. I started watching it on my iPad late at night one week my husband was away for a business trip and I devoured it. It is the story of a foster child who finds her biological parents and it turns out they are as messed up as she is. It is an actual intelligent, well written, well acted show on the CW. It reminds me of Dawson’s Creek when it was good. If you love teen dramas (and I do) you will love this. The series finale is in January. I’ll probably cry. If you have seen #savelux on twitter, this is what they were talking about.
4. Sparklecorn-I ended up at BlogHer after months of thinking I wasn’t going. My husband had a business trip and at the last minute I arranged baby sitting for my son and found a ticket. And while the whole conference didn’t disappoint, Sparklecorn was the highlight for me. From set up to clean up, the mamapop writers bonded and laughed and drank and danced and cried and hugged. I miss them everyday.
5. Rock of Ages-I saw the musical Rock of Ages this summer on Broadway not really knowing what to expect. When you walk in they hand you a fake lighter and sell you beer, in the theater. It is a jukebox musical from the music of hair bands of the 80′s starring American Idol’s Constantine Maroulis. I thought it would be kind of dumb. It was, but in a fun and funny way. And Constantine has a ton of talent. The music is great if you are a child of the 80′s and my sister and I stood up screaming and cheering for the songs through the whole show. I now run to the music and some days it is the only thing that keeps me going. I believe the show is touring now with Constantine and if you get a chance, see it. You won’t be disappointed. (Unless you hate musicals or only like depressing things. Then you might. If you want to be happy or have fun, you will like this.)
6. Laurie’s mamapop post about Summer Songs. Let’s be honest. Summer means rolling your windows down on jamming to music. And Laurie captured that feeling in her post. Perfectly. Plus, I love “All Summer Long” by Kid Rock too.
