Schwarzenegger Arnold Schwarzenegger Admits to Love Child, Terminated Marriage Making A Whole Lot More Sense

Welp, the split of America’s most famous bipartisan couple is starting to make a whole lot more sense.  It seems political differences didn’t tear Arnold and his soon-to-be-ex wife, Maria Shriver apart, but the love child Arnold fathered a decade ago.

Maria bolted out of their marriage right quick after finding out Arnold had a child with a member of their household staff over a decade ago. The mother of his child/his mistress worked in the Schwarzenegger-Shriver home for 20 years. Gotta give the man props for keeping a secret.

Arnold informed his wife of the child after leaving the Governor’s mansion and has apologized to his wife and family.

He says he is “truly sorry”.  I am sure he is.

He has been spinning quite the tangled web of deceit for the last 10 years. I hope Maria rides the alimony pony all the way to the bank.

    • Lexa

It is quite the tangled web. How humiliating for his wife.

Phew – All hope is restored for relationships that cross the party lines! it wasn’t politics! it was cheating!

just kidding. still an awful idea.

    • Lexa

Well, Mary Matalin and James Carville still seem to be happy…

      • http://www.poobou.com/ cindy w

Well, who’d want to sleep with James Carville? I mean, he’s a smart guy, but… eww.

        • Lexa

You make a very fair point, Cindy.

  • Beckie

She must want to crawl under a rock! Poor Maria. Even if they were strong enough to get through an illegitimate love child – finding out after 10 years of it being right under your nose kind of kills any concept of trust for the future. Hope she’s got a good lawyer and some great friends!

    • Lexa

Yeah, I kinda think that is the worst part. MAYBE, just MAYBE, if he told her right away, something could be salvaged, but ten years of lies. Eek.

Also, poor kid. Does s/he know who dad is? Are they saddles with the secret as well?

      • Caitlin

That’s what kills me. The years and years of carefully coordinated lies and deceit, all while she was going to bat for him – even defending him against allegations that he was a Gropey McSleazester. It makes me sick to my stomach for her.

        • Natalie

I feel like I read somewhere earlier this morning that the mother of the child, when asked, claimed her husband at the time was the father and didn’t respond after she was told what Arnold said. So does this mean Arnold came clean about this to the press before telling the mother of this child he was going to do so? Did anyone else read anything along those lines?

          • Lexa

Oh, man. I have not heard this. That is even more troubling if it is the case.

          • Caitlin

That’s what I thought too, Natalie.

  • Dawn K.

    Arnold the Sperminator.

Maria seems like such a good woman. She definitely deserves better.

    • Lexa

Seriously. Five kids. They guy is potent. I will give him that.

  • Karen

Well, crap. Are there any couples in the public eye without skanky secrets? My faith in Hollywood and the political scene is destroyed.

  • Berto

At least he was honest about it? Sure it took 10 years to get around to it, and it probably would’ve been easier and more stress-free to simply not have slept with, much less knocked up, someone who worked for you, but give the guy some credit, right?

    • Caitlin

You know, I was thinking about that this morning. How striking it was that he was actually owning up to everything, taking responsibility and acknowledging the kid’s existence, etc. (albeit after ten years, and after he is out of the political spotlight, and doesn’t have anything to lose besides, you know, his faithful wife).
      Unlike, say, John Edwards.

But you know what the worst part is? That a guy owning up to being a dog means we want to reward him with cookies and praise of good behavior for acknowledging it. Yes, it was right for him to own up to what he did. But he is still a dog. And at the end of the day we’re talking about him taking credit for being a dog. How messed up is it that this is remarkable?

      • Berto

Exactly. Since when is doing the right thing — ten years after the fact — a commendable or even an extraordinary thing? Why on earth isn’t that the norm?

        • Lexa

Isn’t there a Chris Rock sketch about this? Basically you don’t win a prize for doing the right thing?

  • Ellie

He’s sorry he finally had to fess up! It’s a shameful day to be a Californian.

    • Lexa

Yeah, the whole sad because you got caught phenomenon. Le sigh.

  • Caitlin

Sad because you got caught indeed. I mean…what was his exit strategy? Step One: Hope no one finds out and the kid never wonders and no one puts two and two together. Step Two: Er…life as usual, i guess.
