Oh wait, no I read that wrong. Actress Sandra Bullock adopted a few hundred kids in New Orleans.
Wait no that isn’t right either, one last try: Sandra Bullock adopted an entire high school in New Orleans — which for all intent and purpose, is full of kids. Take that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt and your wee band of six kids. Sandra Bullock has an entire institution full of ‘em. Wa-bang!
Anyway. This ‘adoption’ actually happened back in 2007 which does not make it current news per say BUT it is a newsflash if you look at the results of the graduating class of 2011. The graduating class of 2011 from Warren Easton Charter High School, adopted by one Ms. Bullock, included every single student in the senior class. As in 100% of the registered senior class graduated. 100%. That is a valid definition of awesome in my books.
And what else is awesome is that between these 220 graduates, they have been offered over 4 million dollars in scholarships from over 15 colleges and universities. Now while I’m sure these kids all worked really hard to get through high school, resulting in all of them graduating, I feel safe in assuming that Bullock’s monetary support facilitated a smoother path to success in life.
Sandra Bullock: Setting the bar high for other celebrities. Can you imagine if all celebrities with healthy bank accounts and rich people did this globally — can you imagine the impact on future generations? Oh I know someone out there is saying ‘Hey there Mrs. Canadian and your socialist, quasi-commi ways. No one should feel obligated to share their hard earned bucks with some kid they never met.’ Well I agree, they shouldn’t feel obligated to do it, they should feel inspired to do it because I bet it feels really good, that kind of good that comes from helping another human being. Win-win for all those involved.
