Comic-Con 2011: A Collection Of Sad Cosplayers

I spent the past three days at San Diego’s Comic-Con, the epicenter of Geek Culture. I sat in on some great panels, chatted with artists, writers and fans, and had a generally swell time. One of the highlights for me was attending Francis Ford Coppola’s panel, in which he discussed his forthcoming film Twixt. I think. I was distracted by the guys in the Klingon costumes sitting next to me who were, along with discussing who win in a fight between a Gorn and a Wampa Ice Monster (RIGHT, because that could never happen…unless a wormhole in the space-time continuum opened up, linking the Star Trek and Star Wars Universes together, which totally COULD happen) bitching about the long lines, the cost of food, and the lack of swag. Which leads me to my other personal highlight: taking pictures of people in ridiculous costumes who didn’t really seem to be enjoying themselves. Here are a few:

This is Green Arrow. Not Green Lantern. Despite the uncanny resemblance to Ryan Reynolds.

    Brony! So weird.

There is a weird part of me that thinks these people are probably having more sex than me. I am having a troubling time with this.

Quality over quantity, my dear. Quality over quantity.

I just don’t get the whole cosplay thing. Sorry, but I don’t. Is it a fetish or something? Like those people on My Strange Addiction who like to dress up like babies and wear diapers? Color me confused.

Hey, I think I know that Zombie/Beetlejuice! I believe he’s part of the steampunk group, League of Steam. They do this thing at Maker Faire in which they advertise the benefits of having zombie house slaves. It’s pretty damn funny.

And now I know about bronies, fuck you very much.

I think the dude in the picture is the Bronie Rorschach. I’m concerned for my safety.

That’s funny, because at first glance I DID think it was some kind of Rorschach costume.

this makes me a little sad that i haven’t fit into my wonder woman underoos since 4th grade. but only a LITTLE sad.

    • Jason

I think Batman Guy redefined the concept of fitting into one’s childhood Underoos.

What exactly is that canister of ectoplasm that Bronie is carrying around? Is that his lunch? A giant cylindar of Mountain Dew? I R confused.

It looks to be the sort of canister architects and engineers use to carry drawings/blueprints, though, dollars to donuts, it’s full of furry pinup art he bought at the Con for his mom’s basement.
