Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2 has already crushed some serious box office records, less than a week after opening. The three-day record of $158.4 million previously held by The Dark Knight in 2009, was steam-rolled by Mr. Potter with $169.2 million made from Thursday to Sunday. That number was nudged along with the help of 3-D and IMAX sales, boosting the ticket price by $3 or more, but the critical praise indicates that the success may well be deserved.
With just three days past the opening day, Emma Watson is wasting no time getting herself back into the big-name movie game. This time she’s going with a classic – Beauty And The Beast. In what will be the dozenth film adaptation, including Beastly, which was just released on March 18th of this year, Watson will play the lead role. Beauty, obviously, not the Beast. It will be Emma’s first bona fide starring role, potentially parlaying her into lead actress status.
Hellboy and Pan’s Labyrinth writer and producer, Guillermo del Toro is set to helm this take on Beauty And The Beast. Interesting. Very interesting, indeed. Del Toro’s name attached to the project, which was announced by producer Denise Di Novi, means this could turn into a very dark, very creative and stylized version of the classic tale. This could wash our minds of anything Disney-related with this fairy tale, for better or worse.
Are we ready for a new take on Beauty And The Beast? Are we ready for another movie based on a fairy tale once done by Disney? Are we dying to know who’d play the Beast? I say Benicio, the other Del Toro, would do just fine.
