So much for Teen Mom 2 star Jenelle Evans’ New Year’s resolution not to get arrested in 2012. If she didn’t actually make that resolution, it would have been a good one, except for the fact that she’s now donned those bracelets twice so far this year. Yes, it’s only the third week of January, but Jenelle seems determined to overachieve in at least one area of her life. Either that or this is a roundabout and somewhat unorthodox way of studying law enforcement. At this point, I’m sure Jenelle’s family would be thrilled for her to choose any sort of valid career path, with the possible exception of reality TV star.
Her latest scuffle appears to involve continuing to bug her old roommate Hannah Inman, but she’s also been spotted partying with Jersey Shore’s Vinny Guadagnino and tweeting about watching Spongebob with her new Marine Corps boyfriend, along with her son, Jace.
My son may be eating chocolate chip cookies for breakfast as I type, but the TV’s off for a change and I feel like Mom of the Year by comparison. Plus, my cookies are from scratch, and I’m not sure Jenelle knows how to turn on the oven.
It really doesn’t matter to me how old Jenelle is or where her baby daddy may be or even whether or not she bakes cookies or serves Jace vegetables. However, I do wonder who is taking care of her son while she’s languishing in jail for the second time in a week. I also wonder why people continue to doubt the ability of gay and lesbian couples to parent effectively when we have such breathtaking examples of ineffectiveness and lack of commitment among heterosexual couples.
I wouldn’t want to parent in the spotlight either, so I’m usually inclined to give parents a pass on the less egregious offenses like penis-shaped candy and cookies for breakfast. But I’ve got to draw the line at a criminal record that includes two arrests in less than a week. Teen Mom 2 is not intended to make motherhood look like a cake walk, but nor are Jenelle’s criminal offenses a result of being a teen mom. I’m guessing she’d be in trouble whether or not the condom broke. Fact is though, there’s a child here who ought to be a greater consideration than he apparently is. If Jenelle cared that much about being a decent mother, she wouldn’t be in jail right now.
Go on, pat yourselves on the backs, parents. Maybe you dropped an f-bomb or forgot to brush your kid’s teeth before bed, but at least you’re not in handcuffs today.
