Seriously, does ANYONE stay together anymore? SIGH.

After a weekend filled with speculation, Project Runway’s Heidi Klum, 38, and Grammy-winning rose-kisser Seal, 48, confirmed yesterday that after almost 7 years of marriage they are indeed calling it quits and headed for divorce.

In a joint statement, the newly separated couple said:

“We have had the deepest respect for one another throughout our relationship and continue to love each other very much, but we have grown apart. This is an amicable process and protecting the well-being of our children remains our top priority, especially during this time of transition.

“We thank our family, friends, and fans for their kind words of support. And for our children’s sake, we appreciate you respecting our privacy.”

Klum and Seal have four children together ages 2 to 7 years old. Aaaand I have nothing even vaguely humorous or witty to say about any of this. Sorries.

I honestly can’t explain why I’m so bummed about this, but I am. Maybe because they seemed – unlike so many other couples (and celebrity ones especially) – to actually be genuinely happy? That it seemed like they might be one of the rare Hollywood couples that would make it? Something like that. Just goes to show how little anyone knows about what goes on in any marriage behind closed doors.

    I’m with you, strangely bummed about this. While I think some of these crazy celebrities are just too self-involved or whatever, I do wonder if the pressures or unique craziness of being famous is just too much on a marriage? I don’t know.

    Well, damn. I concur, this was probably my favorite celeb couple, and I also thought they were 2gether 4ever and all that jazz. I just think it’s impossible to stay married/together when both people are famous. It’s hard enough when both people are middle of the road ordinary.

    Grown apart? That seems sort of…lame. Like something that could be worked on. But, as you said, no one really knows what goes on in a marriage except the ones in it.

      You know, I agree, but in a way, it almost makes me like them more, like they’re unwilling to trash talk each other, so they have to just say something lame and vague like that.

      I find myself simultaneously sad and irritated by this.  I am sure the pressure of celebrity is a lot to bear, and it has to be hard when one person is succeeding and the other’s career is floundering (not that either necessarily is, in this case), but damn people, can ANY of you stay married?  you know this is SUPPOSED to be really hard, right?

    I get what you’re saying. They seemed so happy (despite having so many young children in such a short time frame!). She was particularly gushy when she spoke about her husband. Kind of made me feel like a loser wife.

    Wow, I am seriously bummed about this. I know this is a ridiculous thing to say, but they seemed so *genuine*.

    I respect them for keeping it polite and amicable. I hope it stays that way — though from what I’ve seen of both of them always, I would be really surprised if it did not.

    Big sads. They were definitely one of my favourite couples.

    I am with everyone else; sad stuff.  They seemed like a neat couple.

    BUT.

    In retrospect, they renewing of the vows every year seems a little bit tinged with “thou doth protest too much”.

      I totally agree, and I’ve always found it kind of weird. However, I’ve also always felt that people are free to be weird and that’s totally okay.

      I’m finding a lot of quiet accusations on the internet this morning that the split was caused by her having an affair. I hope that’s not true. :(
