In news that is bound to put your case of the Mondays into cutting perspective, Usher’s 11-year-old stepson, Kyle Glover, has been pronounced brain dead at an Atlanta area hospital following a horrific jet ski accident Saturday afternoon on Lake Lanier in Georgia.
According to reports, Kyle and an unidentified female teenager were sitting on a floating tube that was attached to a boat. For reasons that are unknown yet at this time, another person driving a jet ski came too close to the kids, and Kyle was struck in the head. The person driving the other jet ski has only been identified so far as a 38-year-old male, and he is said to be cooperating with police and investigators. It is still unclear whether this will even be a criminal case and whether the driver of that jet ski will be charged with any crimes. Investigators have said, however, that alcohol did not play a factor. Local news reports:
The DNR [Georgia Department of Natural Resources] has said alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the incident, which happened near Holiday Marina. Despite not releasing the names of those involved, the DNR said Friday the man on the personal watercraft and the children tubing were part of the same group on an outing at the lake.
DNR rangers at the lake pulled the teenage girl from the water Friday afternoon, Sgt. Mike Bergamy said. Good Samaritans in a nearby boat pulled the boy from the water, Bergamy said.
The incident Friday came just four days after the funeral for two brothers killed in a June 18 boat wreck at the lake. Jake and Griffin Prince died when the pontoon boat they were on with family members was struck by a fishing boat.
A thorough investigation is already underway, and both the jet ski and inner tube have been confiscated by authorities.
The Wildlife Resources Division department’s Critical Incident Response Team will use special computer programs to help them determine how fast the boats were going at the time of the accident. Robin Hill, a representative for the organisation confirmed that rangers have been in touch with the driver of the jet ski and remain in contact with him.
They will hand their recommendation over to the district attorney who can then decide whether or not to file charges, once the department has completed their investigation.
Immediately following the accident, Kyle and the 15-year-old girl were both airlifted to Children’s Healthcare at Egelston Hospital. While the girl is stable with a broken arm, it is reported that doctors have not detected any brain activity since the 11-year-old was admitted.
For whatever reason, Kyle’s mother Tameka Foster managed to get a call in to Radar Online where she confirmed that her son was not doing well. “He’s bad,” she said. Tameka also posted a Facebook update, calling for prayers for her eldest son.
“Kyle, You are strong.. You’ll be saved I know it. I love you my baby. I need all #Prayers for my son! thanks you everybody!”
Heart. Breaking. My god.
While it is unclear exactly where Tameka was at the time of the accident, or even who her son was with at the time, there are reports circulating that Usher immediately chartered a private jet for his ex-wife to get to her son’s side. Usher himself is said to have joined them later that evening. While the two experienced a very public and very bitter divorce, Usher and Tameka have two children together, and the musician is said to have remained close with Kyle as well. Kyle’s biological father is Ryan Glover, Tameka’s first husband.
As of this morning, there was no further word on the boy’s prognosis or whether a decision had been made to take him off life support. That poor, sweet boy and his mother. My thoughts are with the entire family.
