This week second-time mom Kourtney Kardashian confessed that she gained a ton of weight (“ton” by celebrity standards—Jessica Simpson knows what I’m talking about) with her recent pregnancy and hey—she’s totally okay with that.
“I gained nearly 45 pounds. I’m 5 feet tall, so that’s a lot,” she told Us Weekly, following up with, “While I’m here around the house, I just eat healthy.”
Congratulations on the most rational, well-rounded statement I’ve ever seen come out of a Kardashian’s face. How ’bout a round of applause for the woman!
Everyone’s favorite rocker-mother Gwen Stefani also made a deep dark mom confession this week when she revealed that balancing her career and having a family is hard, yo. “And then I got pregnant with Zuma, and it was really challenging to be pregnant and come off all the stuff I had done, and try to write. And that’s why things got really delayed; it was like, impossible, I just couldn’t do it; I had nothing left to give.”
She’s one of the Hollywood moms whom I would have pegged to have it most together, but her kids are “exhausting” and returning to the studio was “a nice break.” Next thing you know she’s going to announce she too hides in the bathroom so she can sit alone and text. “Mommy is pooping, you can’t come in right now! GIVE ME A MINUTE.”
Every once in a while we get a refreshing reminder that in between all the crazy out-of-touch people in Hollywood (and there are a lot of those), some celebrities are just regular humans, dealing with life and parenthood the same way we do. Both of these thoughts sound like something that could fall out of the mouths of my friends at any given moment or things that I’ve already said, because most of us probably gained more pregnancy weight than we would have liked and yes, motherhood can be hard to balance, from rock career to receptionist.
Thanks Hollywood, I really needed that today.
