Level One Squee: Joss Whedon, creator of All The Things We’ve Ever Loved, is officially working on a new TV show pilot.
Level Two Squee: He’s co-writing it with his brother Jed and Jed’s wife Maurissa Tancharoen, so it’s basically like getting the Dr. Horrible band back together.
Level Three Squee: The pilot is for ABC, not Fox, which hopefully means the show will NOT be completely mis-marketed and schedule-dicked-with and prematurely canceled the minute after you fall in love with it.
THAT’S SOME NEXT LEVEL SQUEE RIGHT THERE.
The series is part of a long-rumored TV development deal with Marvel, so yes, it’s superheroes. And as Jason accurately predicted a couple weeks ago, it’s about S.H.I.E.L.D:
“The project is based on Marvel’s peacekeeping organization S.H.I.E.L.D (which stands for Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistics Directorate or Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division) found in both the Marvel comic book and feature film universes, including the blockbuster 2012 movie The Avengers.”
So The Avengers was amazing, Whedon’s been booked for the sequel (S.H.I.E.L.D. will be “autonomous” from that, however), plus this new series, PLUS PLUS PLUS the Dr. Horrible sequel is in the works and will begin production next spring.
*falls over dead*
All in all, not a bad year for us obsessive Whedonerd types, no? I’m not even sure which thing to be the most excited about.
(That was a lie. DR. HORRIBLE 4 EVAH.)
