America is failing her washed-up rock stars. We’ve watched with sadness as Ted Nugent has descended into delusional madness, most recently evidenced by his opinion that the wrong side won the Civil War. And now it seems that Dave Mustaine, leader of the Metallica tribute band Megadeth, is battling mental illness. Mustaine is one of a handful of celebrities who are proud conservatives. Nothing wrong with that—so is Kelsey Grammer, and he seems to be a decent guy, apart from the fact that he thought making this movie was a good career move. But recently Mustaine has been displaying what psychiatrists refer to as “erratic behavior”, and what the rest of us refer to as “batshit craziness”.
In a recent concert held in Singapore, Mustaine took a break between songs to chastise a fan who had thrown a shoe on to the stage. As you’ll see from video posted to the Internet by a fan who was in attendance, things go off the deep end right at the 2:44 mark (some potty mouth action, so put on the headphones if you’re at work):
Yes, you heard that correctly: Mustaine told the crowd that President Obama staged the Aurora and Wisconsin Sikh Temple shootings as part of his plan to pass a gun ban. I’ll let you process that while I go and grab myself a bowl of cereal.
Ok, I’m back. Have you fully processed Dave Mustaine’s claim that Obama is secretly plotting the rise of “Nazi America”? No? Alright, I’ll refill my coffee cup.
While the whole “Nazi America” metaphor is something that political extremists on both ends of the spectrum who have apparently never read or seen anything about World War II love to bring up, Dave Mustaine adds a new element of wackiness to it with his insinuations. But as I said, it might not be his fault, in which case he serves as yet another example of how far behind America is when it comes to treating the mentally ill. This video provides further evidence that this may be the case. Skip to the 1:50 mark:
Or, you, know, he could just be a stupid asshole.
