The Democrats used the word “secretly”. I do not think it means what they think it means. Regardless, the fact that ScarJo and KerrWa (is that a thing that people call her? Because it should be) will be speaking at the Democratic National Convention affords me the opportunity to remind you all of this:

And so Kerry Washington and Scarlett Johansson were tapped to speak at the Democratic National Convention tonight. Also, the Foo Fighters will be performing. Now, of course there’s a measure of one-upsmanship going on here; the Democrats are countering Eastwood by bringing in celebs who appeal to their younger and more diverse voting base. The purpose of celebs at conventions is not to sway anyone; they’re there to entertain, to give the crowd someone to “oooh” and “ahhhh” at. (If you think Eastwood is a True Believer, you might want to do a little reading—he’s pro-choice, supports marriage equality, supported the bailout of the auto industry, is in favor of gun control laws, and if you’ve seen Invictus, Million Dollar Baby, Unforgiven, and Gran Torino you understand that, despite the weirdness of his performance at the GOP Convention, he’s a bit more complex than the above photos indicate.) I’m not sure there’s much more to say about celebrities appearing at political conventions, except that this is a thing that happens. And, oh yeah, President Barack Obama will be accepting his party’s nomination. Which of course gives me an excuse to post this:
