There is a whole lotta drama unfolding for one of television’s most beloved comedies, and specifically, for one of its younger stars. Ariel Winter, who is 14-years-old and plays Alex Dunphy on Modern Family, was removed from her mother’s home roughly one week ago. Her 34-year-old sister, Shanelle Gray, was awarded temporary custody.
Hold up.
Alex Dunphy is ACTUALLY 14-years-old? Does anyone else remember a time when only 30-year-olds were allowed to play high schoolers, because I’M A LITTLE CONFUSED.
Anyway.
Ariel Winter/Alex Dunphy was removed after her sister petitioned the court, citing abuse at the hands and mouth of their mother, Chrystal Workman. The alleged abuse is said to be both physical and emotional, and it should go without saying that the whole thing sounds absolutely horrific. (So much so that I won’t spend much time making fun of the spelling of the Evil Mother’s name.) Chrystal has flatly denied the rumors, claiming she has proof in the form of “letters” from her daughter’s stylists (WTF?) and plus her son totally has her back.
And as if this isn’t all messy enough, Chrystal has upped the ante by announcing that her 14-year-old golden ticket is a lying sack of shit, because she TOTES caught her trying to do the no-pants-dance with an 18-year-old boy in their house and is just throwing a major temper tantrum because her mom is a cock blocking sonofabitch. Here statement reads:
My fourteen-year-old daughter has been dating an eighteen-and-a-half-year-old man, and when I caught them engaging in behavior that I feel my daughter is too young mentally and physically to understand and fully grasp I put a stop to it immediately. I love my daughter very much. I would never abuse her in anyway and I have always tried my best to always protect her and do what is right for her. Because legally he is an adult and if he wants to engage in adult behavior with a minor than he should also be ready to suffer adult consequences for his actions.
Authorities, however, are noting that Chrystal’s story sounds suspicious, given that she only revealed this issue AFTER Ariel/Alex was removed from the home, and nearly TWO WEEKS after the incident actually took place. They seem to think, like most sane, rational people, that a mother might file a statutory rape complaint IMMEDIATELY following the incident, and not at a moment to gain some sort of publicity leverage. I’m pretty fucking sure *I* would anyway.
Let’s hope this clears up for the young star.
