PSY and MC Hammer Put All Other Celebrity Duos to Shame

psy mc hammer instagram 590x406 PSY and MC Hammer Put All Other Celebrity Duos to ShameI did not watch the entirety of the American Music Awards on Sunday night, but I did catch a glimpse of this phenomenal performance by PSY and MC Hammer.  PSY killed the “Gangnam Style” portion (what a boss) and then MC Hammer and his crew come on stage to dance along while a mix of “Gangnam Style” and “2 Legit 2 Quit” played.  It was incredible.  Such an awesome performance.

SO GOOD, right?  If only all celebrity mashups were as well done as this one.  Here are some unlikely duos and strange performances over the years:

Elton John and Eminem seemed a little strange to me because, well, because Eminem received so much heat for using gay slurs.  He has since publicly stated that he is not homophobic, is mad cool with gay people, and did a high five/good game butt slap with Anderson Cooper after an interview.  I probably made that last one up.

People thought the performance was cool.  Dark and wildly depressing, but… cool?  I don’t know.  People are weird.

Here’s another weird duo – Justin Timberlake and Reba McEntire.  Never mind that I think it’s a weird match simply since Reba’s old enough to be his mom.  I don’t like country music and I don’t like ballads and I certainly don’t like country ballads, what the junk is this.  Justin actually looks like he’s falling asleep, so I don’t think he’ll blame me for not buying the mp3.

Speaking of Justin Timberlake, he and the rest of the *NSYNC crew did a sort-of-performance with Michael Jackson at the 2001 MTV VMAs.  I say “sort of” because MJ came out at the end and danced while *NSYNC awkwardly watched and Justin allegedly beatboxed.

I feel badly even ragging on them even a little bit because I will never turn down the opportunity to sing “Tearin’ Up My Heart.”  I know you feel me right now.  No need to pretend.

And the biggest celebrity performance trainwreck I can think of: Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Madonna, and Missy Elliott.

The entire performance is like – I don’t know – watching the worst parts of a bad prom and a weird sorority party, give or take five pounds of bronzer.  Missy Elliott was a welcome 20 second break, but I CANNOT UNSEE all of the other weirdness.

Celebrity performances I would actually love to see:

- Taylor Swift and Kanye West
- Justin Bieber and Rage Against the Machine
- Bubba Sparxx and Vladimir Putin

But truly, who can beat that PSY/MC Hammer performance?  They killed it.

    Haha this was awesome!
It was a cool, upbeat blend of my past and current favorites! Actually, I went as MC Hammer for Halloween
when I was a kid, and went as Psy for Halloween this year! The dance was cool since the two songs have a
similar feel/dance, AND they are still both talented. I was working late last night at DISH, but my
Hopper recorded the awards automatically with PrimeTime anytime. I get every PT show from all four major
networks recorded nightly, which is a huge convenience. I had even forgotten the awards were last
night, but it was nice coming home to find it on my DVR!

I saw some awesome Psy Halloween costumes this year! All you need is someone wearing a cowboy hat to dance over you in an elevator. :)
