Greetings, Browncoats! (aka soopa-fans of Firefly - the all too short lived Joss Whedon sci-fi cult classic)
In this our month of giving thanks, Senor Whedon and The Science Channel are rewarding your fervor for the show by marking the 10th anniversary of its creation with an all day series marathon November 11th. And if that isn’t enough of an assault on your limbic system, capping the marathon will be the anniversary special Firefly: Browncoats Unite - a reunion of both creator and cast that is sure to get your November off to one nerd-tastic start!
The Science Channel whets it like this:
The Science Channel reunites Joss Whedon, Nathan Fillion and the entire renegade crew of the Serenity for the first time ever to provide the complete oral history on the franchise that continues to explode in popularity – despite meeting its end a decade ago. The 60 minute special includes secrets from the set, exclusive cast interviews, and footage from this year’s colossal Comic-Con panel that dominated the pop culture conversation.
Not to be all sour grapes, but you can ball up this anniversary special, load it on a multipurpose, mid-bulk transport boat and send it on a one way trip to Verbana for all I care. BRING BACK THE SHOW!
Fillion and Whedon alone have to have the collective juice to get this show rolling again should they ever choose to do so. And why wouldn’t they?! There’s already an audience for it! The show lasted only one season (2002-2003) before it was cancelled, but it seems like its fan base has grown exponentially every year since. How do I know? There’s freakin’ Firefly fanfic at my Barnes & Noble that’s how.
Sure, Fillion is probably making much more on Castle than he was for Firefly and Whedon has done blown up, too. But Castle is dreadful and not long for this world I would hope imagine and Whedon all but has a sure thing here in gettin’ the band back together. Not many other creators of television have that luxury! If they get on board, the rest of the cast will follow (they’ll work out the whole Wash died in Serenity thing for Alan Tudyk) and BOOM a great show is back on the air and given a well deserved second chance at life. See? It’s all so simple.
Take my love, take my land, take some time to share your thoughts below should the spirit move you! Could/should Firefly come back?
