It’s the day after Christmas. A small explosion of wrapping paper, ribbon and now-illegible gift receipts has claimed your living room. Your loved ones have either already left or you yourself are on your way back home to enjoy a couple of more days of merriment until the holiday-free wasteland that is January 2nd through Easter. If you’re like me there’s only one thought coursing through your mind.
“WHAT AM I GOING TO GET MY KIDS WHO HAVE ALREADY FORGOTTEN WHAT THEY GOT THIS YEAR FOR NEXT CHRISTMAS?!”
Fortunately, the fine folks at LEGO have got you covered. BEHOLD:
1.21 Gigawatts of Awesome
LEGO (builder of imagination, creator of architects, crippler of anyone who steps on one of their stray pieces) has announced that they’ll be releasing a set featuring the DeLorean from the Back to the Future movies in mid-2013. If you are a fan of things that are amazing, this is exciting news for you. Back to the Future has been enjoying a bit of a merchandising renaissance lately with news like this and the recent release of their genuine replica hoverboard, which costs probably more than you would ever want to consider.
Batteries or the ability to stop me from singing “GONNA GO BACK IN TIIIIIME” constantly not included.
The LEGO set, however, is the cooler of the two items available for two reasons. One, it was actually designed by a fan and was finally optioned by LEGO after a tremendous showing of support. And two, the designers are donating all of the proceeds they’ll be getting from LEGO for the set to the Michael J. Fox Foundation. So, I am now officially considering buying at least three of them.
However if it doesn’t come with a companion Libyan terrorist playset, I’ll be extremely disappointed.
So all of this bears the question, since we’re all excited about Back to the Future again, what other merchandise are we going to need in the immediate future? May I suggest:
Biff Tannen Manure! If it aint Biff, then all you’re giving your plants is shit!
Lorrain Baines Contraception. Because doing your mom is already dangerous enough.
Stupid Hats. Because its not the future without them.
Crispin Glover. That’s it. I just want the chance to hang out with Crispin Glover.
