Live Action ‘Toy Story’ Video Beats Your Kid’s ‘Toy Story’ Diorama Hands-Down

When I think of live-action films, I think of TMNT, The Flinstones, or, like, Howard the Duck. In other words, I don’t typically think GOOD THOUGHTS. But then I heard about this Live Action Toy Story video on YouTube and was all…yeah?

Lemme tell ya: YEAH.

When I first clicked play on this bad boy, I thought, heh, cute. They did the opening credits scene. And then I was all...oh wait…this is a little more here…and then I looked down and was all…HOLY SHIT THIS MOTHER IS FEATURE LENGTH!

The video itself is extraordinary just in how loyal the creators were to the original flick. Is it low-budget? Sure. But it’s fully worth watching, and you’ll continue to be amazed. Now, I didn’t sit down and watch it beginning-to-end, but I did find exceptionally fun parts both here:

The Etch-A-Sketch! Buzz Sticking to the back of the car! The fight scene in the Pizza Planet parking lot!

They trained a DOOOOOOGGGGG!!!1!

So, yeah, we can all agree: COOL BEANS. But then things get all CRAY-CRAY when I tell you that the people behind the video are practically KIDS THEMSELVES. Jesse Perrotta is 21 (BUY THIS MAN A BEER) and Jonason Pauley  is 19 (BUY THIS MAN A…coke?). This means they were …

…(wait for it)…

…frickin’ THREE AND ONE YEARS OLD, respectively, when Pixar‘s original Toy Story was first released in 1995. (Holy god…unexpected lightheadedness due to my overwhelming sense of sudden AGE. 1995?! OMFG.)

The two pals got the inspiration to create this live-action film after seeing Toy Story 3, and after 2 years (TWO!) and a bunch of borrowed stuff from friends, they posted this gem to YouTube. They’re both film students (brillz) and brought DVDs of the movie directly to Pixar studios as soon as they were finished (double brillz). And in two days? WHAM. The video has amassed over 2 million views.

So, in short:

I’m super happy for you guys, Jesse and Jonason, and imma letchyoo finnish, but I’m just sayin’, I plagiarized a book report once in college and IT WAS THE BEST PROJECT OF ALL TIME.

*kicks dirt*

Awesome. Of course, I should see Toy Story I and II before I watch this. I’ve seen III. Makes sense, doesn’t it?

When I was a kid, I wanted to do this with my Star Wars figures, but I settled for a 25-second clip that had nothing to do with the actual movie or story. So it’s pretty much the same.

One more thing: Consider that kids today regard the 80s the same way you and I regarded the 50s when we were little – like ancient history!

    I need a nap.

    Nice post here!
