This is freakin my shiz out. I mean, it's SAD!
Posted by: Isabel | February 08, 2007 at 04:12 PM
The girl was far from sane, but -oh my gosh. And the baby, just very sad.
Posted by: Amanda Y | February 08, 2007 at 04:18 PM
it is shocking to hear, but i'm not surprised, really. i just hope her daughter is cared for, and i'm sorry to say, but she'll probably be better off.

It is sad, regardless of how one felt about her. The baby may, sad to say, be better off.

I am so sad!!! First her son and now her!?!? I'm really freakin' out because my daughter is a few days older than Dannilyn - I can't imagine dying!!! I hope Dannilyn is loved and taken care of by whomever raises her.

i think that it was the trimspa baby. and no, i do/did not not want her body. (although her seemingly endless supply of alcohol would be nice)
Posted by: Dee | February 08, 2007 at 04:55 PM
are there any reports about the cause yet? unfortunately, one of course thinks immediately: drugs.
never a fan, always thought she was a trainwreck, but damn, still sad.
Posted by: Tracey | February 08, 2007 at 04:58 PM
They just said she was traveling with a nurse, which seemed odd. Very sad news.
Posted by: Mrs. Davis | February 08, 2007 at 05:06 PM
My initial reaction (besides utter shock) is to look hard at Howard K. Stern.
Posted by: Amanda | February 08, 2007 at 05:08 PM
No official cause -- all the usual vague stuff, like she was experiencing flu-like symptoms and was hospitalized in October for "pneumonia." And some guy on MSNBC was speculating about a congenital heart defect that she might have shared with her son and was triggered by methadone, but that's just typical filling-the-airtime talking-head blather. She was discovered by her nurse, although Stern was also supposedly staying with her, but no word on where he was during all of this.
According to Perez, her daughter is still in the Bahamas, "under the care of the mother of Shane Gibson, a high-ranking Bahamian official who is a close friend of Smith's." What?
I'm way more shocked about this than I should be. But still. What a crazy bunch of crazy it all is.

I have often regarded ANS as a rather tragic figure. From stripper to model to old guy's wife to losing millions to gaining weight to that trainwreck of a show to losing her son to being sued for Trimspa and now this.
I had honestly hoped that having that little girl would help her get her shit together and be kind of normal.
The whole thing is just sad.
Posted by: Izzy | February 08, 2007 at 05:32 PM
Holy Shit is right!
Rumors are flying around that Howard Stern had something to do with her sons death and hers now.... who knows.. i htink that sounds too far fetched.
Posted by: mk | February 08, 2007 at 05:38 PM
WOW! I just got back from class and saw the headline plastered across Yahoo. How sad, her daughter lost her brother and mom before she could ever know them. I hope that girl is taken care of.
Posted by: Staci | February 08, 2007 at 05:45 PM
Amanda, I'm with you - my first thought was, "Howard K. Stern was there to administer CPA."
Seriously, I'd be very interested to see how her will reads. Didn't it finally come out that HKS was the one who gave the methadone to Danny?

For how many years did her behavior scream "I NEED HELP"? I remember wathing that lame reality show of hers and marveling with my wife about how wasted she always was. Shit, she could barely speak.
I think this is all very soap operaish -- with the creepy boyfriend and the dead son and the looney paternity tests and the sudden, unexplained death -- but I feel sympathy for that poor child. She was born into a category 5 shitstorm.
Posted by: Dad Gone Mad | February 08, 2007 at 07:11 PM
Cat 5 shitstorm is totally right DGM! This poor girl has been a trainwreck from day one. There are so many speculations floating around in my head about how she may have died: maybe Larry did it. Maybe Howard did it. Maybe TrimSpa gave her a heart attack. Maybe she found out that Larry really is her babydaddy and she killed herself. Who knows. But I do feel really bad for that poor baby girl. Regardless of how good/bad a mother ANS might have been, it's still sad for the baby to never even know her.
Posted by: Cara | February 08, 2007 at 07:30 PM
What a waste of a life. AN was a complete trainwreck for years. And that smarmy lawyer always by her side didn't help any. As DGM said, it's been a very long while since I saw her NOT zonked out on something. She was, I believe, so intrinsically stupid that she allowed people to lead her and probably take advantage of her. It never seemed to me that she exerted any real control over what happened to her; she just LET things occur. What a sad, strange life/death.

What a shock, y'all.
I blogged about this today before I knew you did, and of course you did a better job than me.
But geez. If that little baby wasn't gonna need therapy before now, today makes it a guaranteed fact.
Posted by: Missie | February 08, 2007 at 07:47 PM
I spent hours (HOURS!) today trying to say something snarky and bitchy about this, but damn, it's just so damn sad. Her whole life was so damn sad.
Posted by: missbanshee | February 08, 2007 at 08:24 PM
That poor baby girl. Only 5 months old. Lost her brother, lost her mother, and who knows who her daddy is. I am sure their will be some kind of battle still for paternity. That is all I can think about--not Anna because she kind of did that to herself. But that baby is so innocent and who knows what is going to happen to her.
Posted by: Amy H. | February 08, 2007 at 08:29 PM
Whatever the depth of Stern's involvement in hers and her son's death, he's a shit of human being for enabling her all these years. He's allowed her to live her life in a drug-addled stupor. What kind of friend, legal counsel or lover is that? An opportunistic one, one who truly did not care for her or her wellbeing. So either way, F him. Now he's going to find some other thing to do besides being a leech.
Posted by: Tere | February 08, 2007 at 08:32 PM
Yes, 100%, it's just SAD. When I first saw it, I thought it was a publicity stunt. Surprised but not. ANS was a tragic, tragic woman. God, that poor baby. I'll agree, Dannielynn is probably better off. At least, I hope so.

UPDATE, ya'll: according to cnn: "Large amounts of prescription drugs were found in Anna Nicole Smith's hotel room, law enforcement sources tell CNN." UGH.
Posted by: Tracey | February 09, 2007 at 10:55 AM
Tere: ABSOLUTELY. If Stern had really loved her, he would have gotten her clean.
Posted by: Amanda | February 09, 2007 at 12:24 PM
And CNN says the prescription drugs that they removed (including Valium) were all in Howard K. Stern's name.
Hmmmm...
