And so begins a new monthly feature on MamaPop. A monthly feature wherein all the MamaPop mamas gather to tell you what consumables they've each been enjoying that month, so that you may be enlightened and go forth to partake of their goodness. Behold the consumerist glory:
Recommended Song or Album:
Kelly: Amy Winehouse, Back to Black. I like this chick because she's boozy, bawdy, brassy, and ballsy. Her voice is great and her teeth are kind of messed up.
Jen: The very last thing I downloaded on iTunes was Cool It Now by New Edition. (Shameful.) Prior to that it was My Sharona by The Knack and Regulate by Warren G. - obviously my bad taste is a trend.
Mrs. Davis: David Mead's album Tangerine. I can't imagine ever getting tired of this music.
Amanda: Of Montreal's Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer?.
Tracey: Amy Winehouse, Back to Black. Two out of eight MamaPopers approve!
Amy: Modest Mouse, We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank.
Izzy: I'm totally loving this CD called TNT. It's downbeat-ish groove is awesomely chill, yet funky enough that you feel like moving to it when it's on. You can hear it for free on iTunes.
Lena: I know what I recomNOTmend and that's The Pussycat Dolls.

That's right, people. I'm turning Caturday up a notch:
What's better than cats with lazers shooting out of their mouths? That's right. NOTHING.

I suppose this could be seen as a related follow-up of sorts to Jen's earlier post, but with a MUCH darker tone, I think: Blog Death Threats Spark Debate. Apparently blogger Kathy Sierra of Creating Passionate Users has recently been under attack:
Ms Sierra described on her blog how she had been subject to a campaign of threats, including a post that featured a picture of her next to a noose....It is unclear who the authors of the threats are but Ms Sierra said she was particularly disturbed that some of them were hosted on blogs that are authored by or owned by a group that includes some prominent bloggers.

Last week, Wolf Blitzer interviewed Donald Trump on CNN. It was strange seeing Trump on CNN (an alleged news network), when the only thing newsworthy about Trump is that he continues to plumb new depths of mendacious asshattery. However, the money shot of this meeting of the minds was when Wolf asked Trump about his "challenge" to Vince McMahon in the upcoming Wrestlemania 23.
Wolf Blitzer is an idiot.
It's well known that professional wrestling is "fake," yet Wolf treated it as if these two billionaires have an actual throwdown involving two real-live athletes representing their interests. Now, one could argue - given his softball treatment of the Bush administration - that Wolf's relationship with reality is tenuous at best, but this pretty much clinches it.

You know, this show is like The Girl With a Curl in the Middle of Her Forehead: when it's good, it's very, very good, but when it's bad, it's horrid.

...or does anyone else snicker like a 12-year-old over Justin Timberlake's commercial for the 2007 Kids Choice Awards?
Geddit? He's a supremely talented GIFT-WRAPPER! A gift-wrapper of...BOXES! Boxes with...DICKS IN THEM!
HAHAHAHA!
I can't be the only one whose mind goes there, right? Right?

Wikipedia is one of the greatest places on earth to find answers -- What exactly is Scientology? Who is Kylie Minogue? What can I find out about Toilets in Japan? The problem is, you can never be sure if what you see there is accurate. Anyone can edit on Wikipedia, so you have no idea if that entry on the International Space Station came from a 12-year-old in Des Moines, Iowa or a NASA scientist.
Recognizing pitfalls such this, Larry Sanger has built a better encyclopedia, what he calls a "credible competitor" for Wikipedia. Citizendium was unveiled this week, and while it's still in beta form, it's clearly a very different place than its predecessor.

Our friends over at 10 Zen Monkeys have a virtual cornucopia of televised insanity available for your viewing pleasure in their feature on the Six Freakiest Children's TV Rock Bands.
After the 1960s, both cartoons and live-action children's shows began including rock bands. They left a generation baffled by poseurs who said groovy alot — but somewhere there were subversives running wild in the programming department, and Saturday morning would never be the same.
Mommy? Why does the TV want me to get high?

Now that Rome is over, I'm in need of something to replace my need to watch royalty/nobility behaving badly. Cue The Tudors. The best part about this new show from Showtime is, of course, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers. I have a bit of a thang for that man. Can you blame me?

Randy Spelling, spawn of TV mogul Aaron Spelling, along with his buddies Sean Stewart (son of Rod and Alana) and Dave Weintraub (Randy and Sean's former manager), is trusting that his new reality show, "Sons of Hollywood", will convince viewers that they are just regular guys.
I think there's a huge misconception that comes from famous parents, that they're always born with silver spoons in their mouth, everything is given to them and they don't have to lift a finger."
Oh, you mean like your own reality show? And, um, speaking of finger.
