This is My Kind of Learnin'
I love the Friday night TLC treat What Not to Wear with every ounce of my soul. I love Stacey and Clinton like I love my own parents (please don't tell my parents I said that). I listen to their advice like it is the word of god (unlike my actual parents). Of course, I never buy any new clothes and I tend to stay in my pajamas all day - BUT I LISTEN. My husband will even watch it with me and we'll comment on how right-on the advice always is. I probably cry at 8 out of 10 of the episodes because I'm that annoying girl who cries at everything. I love that show and sometimes wish I was more dreadful so I could some day be nominated. I'm not a fashion maven, that's for sure, but the women on that show make me look like one. I watched the "Behind the Seams" special last night and was not disappointed.
Here are some of the things I learned on the special:
- Stacy's gray streak is real and always there. She's had it since she was 12 and you can only see it if her hair is parted a certain way.
- Stacy and Clinton shop with the contestant too. Stacy was actually trying on some of the same stuff in one scene.
- They DO make the contestants return items that don't fall within the rules.
- The average contestant goes home with 7-10 complete outfits. This surprised me since they get $5000. I could get a lot more than that for $5000.
- They really do take all of their clothes.
- Carmindy does her own makeup and Nick does his own hair.
- They pre-select the stores the contestants go to during day 1.
- They have actually had two people say "No" to their offer.
- They really do try to avoid seeing the contestants after their hair and makeup so their reaction during the "reveal" is authentic.
- They are just as awesome behind the scenes as they are on the show.

I loves mahself that show too. I can't help but wish someone would turn me in so I could get a new wardrobe. LOL! And partially because I feel I really need someone to tell me what types of close I should (and should NOT) wear. I wish I'd seen that episode last night. Now I feel all bummed for geeking out on the HBO Free Preview weekend.

Ooooh! I missed it! I'm sure I'll catch a repeat during the week. I'm so glad it didn't disappoint!

I -SO- heart this show. I want to be nominated for this show, but since I am teh geekish, and cannot bear to give up the clothes I have had since highschool, I cannot bear to have someone nominate me.
I am teh loser.

My mom has promised to nominate me sometime. I don't really dress badly, but I am in university so professional dress is going to be a whole other thing and getting a $5000 wardrobe and having someone tell me what to buy sounds great!

since i have absolutely no gay-dar what so ever, i am trying to figure out if cliton in gay and obsessed with "the girls" or if he is straight and very into fashion. Answers anyone?

Have you seen Stacy's new show "Shut Up" (actually it's like Shut Up with Stacy or something)? I watched the pilot this morning on TLC. Very cute, fun, fresh, stylish... just like Stacy I guess! BUT - they seemed to be trying very hard to get the "shut up" phrase associated with her - and it seemed pretty forced. One little complaint, otherwise, I recommend it!

Oh honey, he is totally gay! I LOVE THEM SO MUCH! It is one of my most favoritest shows evah. EVAH. I think Nick is a GENIUS and would gladly let him do whatever he wanted to my hair. Same goes with Carmindy.
Love it!

yeah i know that lack of gay-dar sucks but it is slowly getting better. I for one am thrilled that stacy will have her own talk show (Shut Up! with Stacy London). May her talk show be as awesome as What not to Wear.

Okay, I have to admit that I'm a bit of an anglophile, and I can't stand Clinton and Stacey. Give me the original BBC version of WNTW with Trinny and Susanna anyday. I'm not sure I've ever made it through an entire epidode of the US version, just because the hosts annoy me so much. So, clearly, I am in the minority on this page.

Every time I go shopping I catch myself saying things like "yellow is the color of the season" and "capri pants are a big no-no." When my friends ask me where I hear these things, I say from Stacy. As if we're on a first-name basis.
I don't know what I'd do without What Not to Wear. Probably dress just slightly worse than I already do.

Clinton was at my local Macy's the other week. It's one of my biggest regrets that I didn't go see him. I heart "What Not To Wear"!

Kathryn: I actually prefer the BBC original version also. Trinny and Susanah crack me up. I like Stacey and Clinton just fine, but I LURVE Trinny and Susanah. Got one of their books and everything. That said, their show is never on, and Stacey and Clinton are all new every Friday. There's something to be said for that.

I so love this show. I actually realized when I turned 35-no more short skirts for me. Because Stacy and Clinton say so. And yes, neutrals do look way better with neutrals.
I cry too! But I love the shows where the people fight them. Stacy is so funny, because you know she just wants to cuss them out, but she has to be nice.
Being set up for the show is actually one of my secret fantasies, because I would LOVE $5000 to spend in NYC.

My husband has started begging me the last few weeks to nominate him for the show. He says his fashion sense sucks and he needs the kind of help that only Stacy and Clinton can provide. He says he watches it with me to get ideas and tips, but they hardly ever have men on there.
He's starting to scare me.

Has anyone seen the new hosts of the BBC version of What Not to Wear? Lisa and Mika are absolutely dreadful. It depressses me to no end that Trinny and Susannah won't be grabbing anyone inappropriately anymore.
Oh and ditto on the love for Stacy and Clinton.

totally couldn't give up all my hoodies and yoga pants. Not even for a $5000 shopping spree!
