Tobey Ticks Off Then Makes Up with Letterman
Oh, Tobey Maguire. You quirky little idiot. You went and broke one of the cardinal rules of show business: Thou Shall Not Piss Off Letterman:
On his Tuesday [April 24] night show, the host of Late Show with David Letterman said Tobey Maguire would not be appearing on the program to talk about Spider-Man 3. In fact, Letterman went on, Maguire would not be appearing on the show "ever again."
Letterman stopped short of launching into one of his trademark rants but was clearly not pleased. He pointed out that Maguire had previously come by the New York-based talk show to chat about Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2 and Seabiscuit.
All the chatter on the interwebs seems to suggest that Tobey has some kind of beef with Dave and/or CBS in general. I don't get it. This is David Letterman we're talking about here. He's brilliant and a legend and highly respected in the business. And when Tobey makes some sweet little indie film that he's totally in love with and desperately wants people to go out and see? He's likely to regret damaging this particular relationship.
And maybe he realized this, because BREAKING NEWS! TOBEY'S HAD A CHANGE OF HEART!
Tobey "Spider-Man" Maguire will appear on "The Late Show" after all. Host David Letterman spent a week needling the star's handlers after being told that Maguire would "never again" go on the show.
But this morning, a Late Show spokeperson alerted Underwire that Maguire will indeed guest on The Late Show tonight [May 1]. No reason was given for the change of heart.
Good for Tobey. Wouldn't want to burn that bridge forever, because audiences love Dave. They love Dave so much that they will stand outside in 28-degree freezing weather to see even C-list celebrities like, say, Martin Lawrence and the chick from Mythbusters and a musical performance by Matisyahu. Even though they hate Martin Lawrence and reggae music more than anything in the world and were certain they were being punk'd when their husband told them who the guests were gonna be that night. And the tickets were a thirtieth birthday gift.
(Shortly before we were led inside and given BALCONY SEATS directly above the freakin' band.)

Isn't Tobey's baby-mama the daughter of a big studio head? Maybe he therefore thinks he doesn't need to play nice? How could you not love Dave? My 14 yr old has started TiVoing him everynight and I usually watch along with him. Sooo classic, so funny.
