RIP, Mr. Wizard
Don Herbert, aka Mr. Wizard, died of bone cancer on Tuesday. He was 89.
I used to watch his show on Nickelodeon all the time when I was a kid. He was a cool dude and will be missed.

I fondly remember his Nickelodeon show and the excessive use of the word wicked by the kids on the show. Goodbye Mr. Wizard, you were wicked cool.

Mr. Wizard in black and white was on in the 1950s on Saturday morning and I faithfully watched him do experiments and explain the why behind science. Mostly the kids were boys in dark jeans and striped tshirts and once in a while a girl came along. I always liked science and my dad did too, so sometimes he'd even watch it with me. You must remember Mr. Wizard of early tv had no competition with cartoons or children's programming. Mostly all we watched on Saturdays were old cowboy movies (which we loved). So Don Herbert was a lifelong favorite of mine. Someone, perhaps a woman, should take his place.
