Pop Britannia: Simon Pegg, Doing Very Nicely, Thank You Very Much...

Simon_pegg

Those of you who giggled your way through Shaun of the Dead much as I did will be interested to know that Simon Pegg has a new film coming out in October, bringing you more of that hapless and oddly attractive pale British charm.  Run, Fatboy, Run is directed by David Schwimmer (yes, Ross) and written by Michael Ian Black (that hilarious dude off Ed, and I Love the 80s) but if this trailer is anything to go by, this is solid British black comedy fayre of the Four Weddings variety, and I say "Hoorah!"  And, let's face it, there is something universally funny about skimpy shorts on hetero men. (see the trailer after the jump)

Simon Pegg is also goin' Hollywood, baby. He'll be co-starring alongside Kirsten Dunst in How to Lose Friends and Alienate People, which began filming in New York this week.  In a plot that seems a bit like The Devil Wears Prada meets Bridget Jones, Pegg plays (wait for it...) a hapless Brit supplanted to The Big Apple, where he tries to fit in at a high profile magazine and fails.  He's British. He's in New York.  Hilarity must ensue, yes??

How to Lose Friends is based on the real-life experiences of Toby Young, who actually wrote the book on self-deprecating but misplaced British charm.  If you're the lover of Brit Chick Chap Lit I am, then it's well worth a read. It's gossipy, snarky, and actually heart-warming.  And if that's not enough, you can also dig into his weekly columns for the London Evening Standard where he wrote about the experience of becoming a "Lad Dad" for the first time.

I LOOOOOOVE him! And Nick Frost too! In fact, I just made my sister an apron with the quote, "Would anyone like....a peanut?" from SOTD. Such a hilarious friggin movie. Hot Fuzz was good too, but very weird.

Oh, I can't wait for this! We're HUGE fans of both Black Books (with Dylan Moran) and Shaun of the Dead!

I must read the "How to Lose Friends . . ." book.
