Guilt by Association
The people who came up with the idea for this album are just plain brilliant. Guilt By Association is a compilation of guilty-pleasure-type songs covered by current indie artists. Petra Haden re-interpreting Journey's "Don't Stop Believin" is enough to hook you into the concept, but it gets better. Much, much better.
Luna covers Paula Abdul's "Straight Up," Geoff Farina covers Eddie Money's "Two Tickets to Paradise," and Jim O'Rourke covers the Spice Girls' "Viva Forever." Listeners can appreciate these songs on an ironic level, or with total sincerity. Either way, this is great music.
You can download three free tracks and read more on the album's MySpace page.

My current favorite cover band that didn't start out to be a cover band is The Dan Band. Frickin' hilarious!
