MamaPop Weekly TV News Wrap Up

Tvnews

Did you hear? That High School Musical actress was naked! Oh. You heard that already? Well - maybe there's a few other bits of news from this week you haven't heard. I'm here to share those bits with you.  Pun intended.

  • Let me start by saying I have always been, and will always be, a fan of Disney's High School Musical. Parts 1 and 2. This is probably because I'm a giant dork who sometimes likes to pretend she's still 12. All of that said, I am only going to say this about the Vanessa Hudgens scandal: Disney is not firing her for this incident and seems to be standing by her. For now.
  • In non-naked HSM news - Zac Efron is going to take the lead in the New Line production of 17. It sounds like some sort of Big-esque movie - in reverse. An adult finds himself in High School again. And dating a girl who the entire world has seen naked. Or something like that.
  • It looks like TBS is going to renew the comedy My Boys for season number three. I find this especially interesting since I've never seen the show. I always like it when I find out there are actually TV shows out there that I don't watch. Kinda like when I heard the show Ed was having a series finale and I didn't even know it had ever existed.
  • My least favorite person that has ever graced primetime - Johnny Fairplay - is expecting his first child with girlfriend Michelle Deighton. Deighton is from America's Next Top Model and I'm not going to say anything else because I can't figure out how to politely critque her taste in men without using the f-word.
  • Jeri Ryan -- who I know from Boston Public and Star Trek but everyone else references Shark -- is pregnant and due in March. I don't watch Shark (obviously) but I loved her on the other shows and needed a cheery pregnancy story to counterbalance the previous one that might have made me want to puke a little.
  • November 6th is marked in red on my calendar because Flight of the Conchords will be realeased on DVD. Since I don't have HBO and never had time to pull it up on the computer, I am one of only 9 people left in the country not talking about this acclaimed season.  I've been too busy watching Seasons 1-7 of Gilmore Girls.  Don't ask.
  • And more news about shows I don't watch but the rest of the world does: Jenna Fischer is in a new music video by Wisely. You an see the video here on YouTube. Even though I don't watch The Office - I still find her incredibly adorable and love that she's doing stuff like this. Especially after the news of her marriage ending that has been making the rounds this week.
  • One of my favorite actresses, Kristin Chenoweth, was injured on the set of her new show Pushing Daisies. This is one of the shows I'm looking forward to the most, and I hope her injury doesn't set the show back at all. I also find her adorable and I'm not even sure why considering I've never watched any other show she's been on. I think it's her interviews on Ellen that won me over. I'm easy like that.
  • Speaking of injuries, Gordon Ramsay injured his testicles before receiving his GQ award. Man, that was funny to type. "Testicles" - not a word that pops up often in TV News reporting. He says this injury happened because he was "going commando" while wearing "cotton trousers" and I find this all oddly hysterical and am going to start trying to work "cotton trousers" into conversation more often.
  • More Pushing Daisies news - Jayma Mays (Heroes and Ugly Betty) is going to a guest spot on PD. I was hoping this would be a big enough showing that she would have to leave Ugly Betty and allow Henry and Betty to be together. Sigh. But it doesn't look like I'll be that lucky. Just a small role that will still give her time to be a part of my least favorite love triangle in the history of television.
  • NBC has recruited Friday Night Lights executive producer Jason Katims to help out with Bionic Woman. I was only going to watch Bionic Woman because I feel like I have to, but now I'm kinda intrigued. I don't want him dropping the ball at FNL (how am I doing with the football references?), but I'm curious to see how he'll be used at Bionic.
  • Speaking of my favorite TV Show, Jessalyn Gilsig is going to play Tami Taylor's sister on Friday Night Lights. She is another actress everyone knows from one show (Nip/Tuck) yet I know from Boston Public. Am I the only one that watched that show? And how is it that every person that played on it will be on my Television this season but not together?
  • We've seen the first glimpse of the Heroes graphic novel which will be released October 28th and will have an introduction by Masi Oka (Hiro). I am inappropriately excited about this. I've always been proud of the fact that I've never bought a graphic novel. It made me feel better about the other really dorky things I buy. But - it looks I'm going to have to break down and buy this one.
  • A casting announcement that will surely have my husband setting a TiVo season pass to My Name Is Earl -- Alyssa Milano will be guest starring for several episodes this season. I don't watch Earl either - so I have no idea what I think about this news but I know he's really happy. "I'm glad to see her career is still thriving." Yes, honey. I'm sure you are.

You know - with so many tidbits reported about TV I don't watch - I'm starting to feel like I'm not watching enough television, and I didn't think that was possible. Maybe next week I'll focus entirely on shows I do watch - which may be even more embarrassing now that I think about it.

I love the show My Boys. Its awesome and the season finale last night was pretty awesome.

Kristabella

I love, love, love My Boys. Basically because it is my life. I live in Chicago, I worked in sports for 10 years and most of my friends are guys.

And thank God they are renewing it so I can find out who the hell she took with her on the plane!!!

(Zoot, I highly recommend it. I think you would like it.)

Becca

I'll chime in to support My Boys. I don't even like sports, and I laughed hysterically at a scene last night in which the guys take turns getting hit by baseballs at a batting cage.

It's just a really fun, funny group dynamic.

Grammar Geek

Wow, and here I thought I was the only one who was watching My Boys.

Tho, I'm a little perturbed about another giant cliffhanger finale after *last* season's finale that they totally copped out on.

And I'm kinda hoping it's Brando on the plane. That would tie it up nicely. *grin*

Spig

Boston Public---was a great show at the beginning and it slowly fell apart.

Kate

Looks like Kristin Chenoweth was actually injured in a fall at home, down some concrete steps. Ouch! Hope she recovers quickly.

BaltimoreGal

Michelle Deighton and that little twerp? Wasn't she the brawny wrestler gal that had the impetigo?
Wierd, definitely.

Rachel

I LOVE My Boys! My opinion is Bobby is on the plane. We totally wouldn't see that one coming.
