Secrets of the Sex and the City Movie (Spoiler!)
So with the Sex and the City movie alive and well and filming on the streets of New York City, spies have been watching the action...and have gleaned some pretty big plot info.
SPOILERS after the jump, duh.
Well! Look who finally got knocked up.
The series ended with Charlotte giving up on pregnancy and accepting the referral of a daughter from China. Which means the movie is probably going with the OH SO CREATIVE idea that as soon as you adopt, you get pregnant. Oops! Oh! Ha!
/grrrr
//don't mind me, I never get tired of people telling me to "just relax" or "just adopt" or "you'd be pregnant by the homestudy!"
///so very, very bitter

I'm a wee bit nervous about that last photo. Me thinks Big did something bad. And he's trying to get Charlotte not to say anything to Carri.
Or more than likely I'm totally wrong. And need to get a life.

looks like she is in labor and he is helping her...

I'm sooo not going to see this now, grrrrrr. As someone who did not get pregnant after adopting and am quite happy with my son, I hate that the writers would need to go down that path w/ Charlotte.

Unless something happened after the finale, and Charlotte didn't get her adopted daughter after all. Didn't the series end with her showing off photos the adoption agency had sent her? We didn't actually see her and Harry taking care of the actual kid?

I think that's probably giving the writers too much credit, Amanda. Even if something did happen and it fell through (unlikely after a referral from China -- they even had their travel dates already), I really do think they're pulling the "try to adopt, get pregnant because you aren't THINKING about it anymore" cliche.
As much as I loved the show, you gotta admit they didn't really *get* mothers and motherhood. We're either the Stepford suburban crazies from the baby shower, self-righteous assholes who make our friends take their Manolos off before entering our homes, or slobs who immediately give up everything to spend our days in puke-covered sweats.
(Of course, this is coming from a mother who did quit her job, move to the burbs AND really did get projectile vomited on today already. So maybe they were dead-on after all.)

But Amy, the real question is, would your fabulous single friends take off their Manolos when they walked into your house? (It doesn't count if you make them do it so you can try them on.)
I would like to have high hopes for the SATC movie, but as I've been catching reruns lately, I can't help but roll my eyes. Really? Carrie Bradshaw is the best friend of each of the other women? She's the glue? Man, I really just want to smack her. (And then run off with Charlotte's wardrobe.) I have a feeling that the movie is going to be filled with cliches of what should have been and exactly what the audience is begging for.

I just hope that Carrie stops wearing a black bra under every piece of clothing or pj's that she owns. I mean come on - how many of us really think a black bra under a white tank top is the way to go?

dude.
i totally hear you about the whole not-getting-the mom thing...charlotte wanting a baby always seemed real, while miranda with a baby just seemed like a cover for the fact that she was having one in real life, and then carrie 'inexplicably' wore ridiculous clothes for a season to cover SJP's real-life pregnancy.
that said, i still think the show was good.
it wasn't meant for the mommy-set to begin with...it was all about the women who found themselves defining family in different ways, after passing the age when most of society thinks one is supposed to begin the baby-making.
maybe their mistake was that they tried to venture into the area of motherhood at all...i don't know.
and i'm certainly not trying to claim that anyone else's points or concerns about a plot as silly as charlotte all of the sudden becoming pregnant--i understand the teeth-grinding that probably ensues after seeing an example like that--are in anyway frivolous.
but, all the same?
the show was always a little on the frivolous side.
and, i'm a single girl.
i have no kids.
(although, i do love reading about all of yours on the internet...yes, i'm looking at you, amalah.)
and i'm pretty sure the movie will still speak to me, even if it is in one long string of cliches.
(the line: 'if you're tired, you take a napa, you don't move to napa' has always hurt my soul a bit, to be honest)

I won't be seeing this movie. First off, I agree about the comments about Charlotte. WTF? So she and Harry are pregnant. But she was just about totally infertile, right? Her eggs were attacking Trey's sperm, or some such.
Also, why do we need a movie? The series had total closure. We really don't care if Carrie and Big get married because the implication was that they were getting together and staying together. Miranda and Steve were in a good place. Char and Harry were getting their baby. Sam and Smith were.. whatever they do, but we didn't need to know what happened to them in the future.
Also given the series' history - Sam and Smith would not still be together.
It's just BS. I said somewhere else that I remembered they swore off doing a movie (back when people gave a shit about them) but that I think SJP hasn't got as much work as she thought she would. To be honest I don't care for her in anything other than this show (and LA Story).
I just have no desire to see this movie, and I was a religious viewer of the show, own (3 seasons of) DVDs, etc.

I know its the cliche that planning to adopt = spontaneous pregnancy, but its kinda a cliche for a reason... it happens!
In fact, that's how I ended up with my little sister. 9 hours with an adoption lawyer when I was 8 years old. 6 months later, my mom ends up pregnant. 9 months and 1 week after that, my sister was a healthy little screaming thing and the adoption lawyers called to say that they had a "great prospect."

I agree that they closed out the series with all ends tied up nicely. There's no reason to have a movie, other than money.
I was always perplexed at all the kudos Pat Field got for dressing Carrie. She looked ridiculous most of the time. And, lactating women aside, who wears a damn bra to bed?

I have seen other pics from the filming, and this scene is the only one so far in which Charlotte is pregnant... I'm surprised that no one has thought of the possibility that maybe it is a dream sequence or something of that ilk... I kinda doubt that Charlotte would wear something that hideous!

I loved SATC. I am beyond excited about the movie! It was a great show. The clothing could be a little unusual, but for the most part was pretty hot.
I am looking forward to seeing what happens to all of them.
