Carson Daly Crosses Picket Line, America Snores.
So Carson Daly is going to be the first late-night host to resume production in disregard for the Writers' Guild of America strike. I don't get it. And not because I expected solidarity from Carson (since I think you have to be technically alive in order to feel solidarity).
What I'm wondering is... what's the point, Carson? I mean, are you getting tons of letters from your legions of fans begging you to come back at all costs? Does anyone watch your show anyway? Maybe insomniacs are suffering withdrawal from the sleep aid that is your "humor"?
I can only surmise that this is some kind of really elaborate plot to force other shows hosted by actual living funny people back on the air. Maybe Conan's fans couldn't take it anymore and thought they could appeal to his competitive spirit by coaxing Carson back on?
It's not just people who don't get how Carson Daly got a show in the first place who are disappointed by this development. The WGA East released a statement saying, ""The Writers Guild of America, East joins our colleagues of the Writers Guild of America, West in expressing our profound disappointment with Carson Daly's decision to return to work. We...hope that Mr. Daly will reconsider his decision, including the soliciting of scab writers to provide material for his program."
I'm sure that the omission of "and unfunny" after "scab" was totally an accident.
