Chelsea Handler Latest Unfunny White Person Caught on Camera Being Unfunny White Person
Chelsea Handler, host of a self-titled show on E! and famous for...uh...being blonde and unamusing, I guess?, has joined Dog the Bounty Hunter and Michael Richards in the proud ranks of celebrities who spout massively stupid, racist nonsense into microphones.
Demonstrating a perplexing inability to control what comes out of her own face and/or a deficiency of humor that should disqualify her from calling herself a comedian ever again, on November 24, Chelsea referred to the birthplace of a Chinese cameraman as "Vietcong-nam," after expressing surprise that he was in the company of a Black cameraman (as in, "crazy that you guys all travel together, Asians and Blacks. That's amazing").
Watch her sad ass flail about unsuccessfully, grasping for funny and getting her spindly little hands only around some very boring, very unhilarious racism in the video here.

I have to agree- she is always joking about everyone, including herself. There is no way she meant any of that- it was obviously a parody of Paris et. al!

I like her, too. Does EVERYTHING have to be all PC these days? Has everyone lost their sense of humor? Sheesh.

I hate the term "PC" so very much, and like even less the notion that taking offense to racism is somehow a demonstration of humorlessness. Racism is actually not hilarious.
But to address BG and Sweetney, if it was tongue in cheek and meant to parody someone, that would make it a different thing entirely. There are a lot of comedians who do that very well - I'll be interested to see if/how Handler follows up.

I've watched her show many times, and can't see this as anything other than "tongue-in-cheek," sort of like the Sarah Silverman debacle from a few years ago.

I often find it rather hilarious that those who come to the defense of people who make racist comments, no matter what the context and how funny the comment was meant to be, are more often than not, the least likely to have something of that sort said to them.
I don't think that people don't have a sense of humor there are just people who have had shitty things said to them over and over again and it gets really old.

People, I am not defending racism. But this was NOT racism! This came from a person who makes fun of everyone, including white people. To put Handler in the same class as Michael Richards, and without even knowing the context of the remarks, is overreacting.

i defer judgment until i can see the entire full context of those remarks. i like her. i have her show on my tivo subscription. i don't think she's a racist, honestly -- i've been following her for years, and i've never seen any indication of what's being suggested here. but again, just innocent-until-proven-otherwise in my book.

Heather B-
You are absolutely right about how often the people who come to the defense of racist comments can be the least likely to be accused.
I was raised by a mother who grew up in the segregation south, and she was a neighbor and witness to the firebombings and other horrors brought upon the people of the Koinonia inter-racial community. Because of her experiences she taught me to be very conscious about racial stereotypes, overtones, and comments and to not tolerate them in any way, shape or form. And I believe I do not.
I would say that I've seen Ms. Handler do a lot of material about other starlets. It seems to me from that and the way she was talking in an exaggerated tone that she is parodying- something we should all be careful not to censor.

It wasnt racism, hello, you really think as she is standing there waiting for her car with a cameraman taping, she is gonna start spewing racist comments, please, she is a comedian, she tells jokes, pokes fun of people, last time I looked, thats what comedians do...lighten up and laugh alittle.
