DWTS Ends With a Pffffft
There's no way last night's Dancing With the Stars finale could have had a surprise ending. It was pretty clear that Marie Osmond wasn't going to be the winner (although it was nice to see her make it to the finals). If Mel B had won, there would have been some angry NASCAR folks, perhaps. Seeing Helio Castroneves take the trophy was fun, but not a bit shocking. None of the three finalists were completely implausible as the winner.
The return of this season's earlier stars (surprise! many of them still can't dance!) during last night's show was also predictable. A performance by Celine Dion? Gag. Montages of past dances? Meh. A montage set to a Celine Dion song? Oh, good lord. All in all, the finale was just a little too bland for me. So I've compiled a brief list of "surprise endings" which I think should have been considered for this season of DWTS.
1. An appearance by Al Gore.
2. A dance-off among the judges.
3. A tag-team wrestling match between the Spice Girls and the Osmonds.
4. One of the dancers jumping over the judges desk and strangling Len Goodman.
5. At the very least, more fainting.

Helio Castroneves doesn't drive for NASCAR. Totally different group of fans.
Really surprised Marie didn't win with the size of her family. Even if she only got votes from every member of her extended family it should have been enough to put her over the top. weird.

You should pitch #3 to the Pay-per-View people. I think they'd be all over that.

Two hours of snooze-worthy filler, I say. But I was glad they didn't drag out the third-place announcement to the very end. My husband and I had both said that had Marie not come in third, we were going to go all gangster on ABC studios. :)
Anytime Celine is on my TV, I mute it. So, I watched a good portion of last night's finale in silence, heavenly silence.

Dear me, I'm just so glad that Marie DIDN'T win. That little doll dance routine she did on Monday seriously freaked me out.
