Sundance - more dance than sun
If you read or watch any of the coverage of the Sundance Film Festival, it feels more like a night at Villa (a hot club in LA, I clearly watch too much TMZ), rather than the largest independent film festival in the US. Apparently there was a ridiculous amount of fans trying to get up close and personal with the faux celebrity. I think I would be forced to kick her in the ass if I saw her in person. Although she is probably getting paid to appear at some events, which seems to be the hot hot hot thing to do, especially in Vegas. Unfortunately I missed Lindsay Lohan celebrating her birthday in Vegas at Pure night club because of that whole rehab thing. Anyhow, more about Sundance after the jump...
Sundance began in 1978 as an effort to attract more filmmakers to Utah. Founded by Sterling Van Wagenen and Charles Gary Allison, Charles Gary Allison with Chairperson Robert Redford, the goal of the festival was to showcase so called "independent" films, or those outside the Hollywood system. Who knew we would see 50 Cent putting on a concert there more than 30 years later? Wow, that makes me feel old.
The music and party scene at the festival has grown exponentially in the last several years, to the point where several "lounges" aimed at celebrities open at midnight or later.
According to CNN, some of the the artists and celebrities with zero-to-minimal connection to
filmmaking who are expected to show up: Akon, Dr. Dre, will.i.am, Paul Oakenfold, John Legend, Kim Kardashian (I looked her up, that is her on the left), Reggie Bush and
the bands Maroon 5 and OneRepublic. Sadly I haven't even heard of most of these people. Perhaps I am just jealous of all the swag.

i was standing in the press line at sundance a few years ago when paris got out of an SUV at the premier of 'the butterfly effect.' this was in the nick carter days. all of the sudden i just said: 'oh my god, she is freakish looking.' like, really loud. and then the rest of the people looked at me like it was my fault that she didn't come and talk to us at all...but, me? i was all: 'keep that stick-bug away from me!'
