Frances Bean: All Growed Up

The new Harper's Bazaar has some great photos and an interesting little piece about fifteen-year-old (how did that happen?!) Frances Bean Cobain. Turns out she's, like, OMG NORMAL. I don't know if it's possible to overprotect a rock heiress who's had fan sites devoted to her since she was born, but she's cute about the fact that her mom, former (and sometimes current) loose cannon Courtney Love, insists she has to have a nanny with her wherever she goes:

"I don't walk on the street by myself," she says, rolling her eyes, "because my mother's a little paranoid."

She also admits to being a total flake, and her fiendish collection of shoes rivals her mom's, which is going to make some Park Avenue consignment shop extremely happy because she'll be growing out of those Miu-Miu pumps right directly. But you know, hey, if my mom said,"Let's stop at Prada on the way to the airport!" I'd probably have missed a few flights, too.

This all could have ended very badly, too: remember the fun rumors that Courtney was maintaining a heroin addiction throughout her pregnancy? GOOD TIMES. But it sounds like Courtney and the Cobain family have worked really hard to raise a sane little girl:

[Frances] credits Kurt's mother, who lives in Olympia, Washington, with helping her keep her head. "We've moved so much, and my life has been so inconsistent," she says. "[She's] the most constant thing I've ever had. I'm really lucky because I've been able to go places and meet people you can only dream of, but she's probably the person I respect most out of anybody in the world."

Courtney adds, "Whatever you want to say about me, go look at my kid. ... I don't think any child has ever been more wanted. And I don't think that any parents have wanted to fuck up less."

She has Kurt's amazing eyes- did even as a little girl. I am not a Courtney fan (and I used to be, loooong ago) but good on her and Kurt's mom for helping her grow up well.

She does sound incredibly self-aware and with a shockingly mature approach to celebrity. It's things like this that make me want to shake the Lindsays and Britneys and Parises.
