Puppetmaster Releases Farrell, Turns Him Into A Real Boy
The wooden puppet known as Colin Farrell practiced using his newly warmed flesh yesterday to speak about the man whose death has given him the opportunity to turn into an actual human being.
Australia's Herald Sun reports that Farrell, still unused to having a real, beating heart, feels "traumatized" by stepping into Heath Ledger's role in the Terry Gilliam film that Ledger was working on at the time of his death. Using computer-generated imagery and a clever script, Ledger's part in the film will now continue using Farrell, Johnny Depp, and Jude Law as Ledger's interdimensional alter-egos.
"It makes me feel uncomfortable to think about it too much and to get into it really here but it's an incredibly painful honor to have, you know, and an honor I wish wasn't bestowed but an honor nonetheless."
Of course it makes him uncomfortable, he's going to be asked to act, he won't be able to rely on being cast as an emotionless hitman, a cold-blodded tough guy, or a brutal conqueror with awesome abs.
The film, The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, is about a traveling theater which lets its audiences pass through a magical mirror into another dimension. It's due out in 2009.
The question is, will the notoriously whimsical Gilliam be able to draw a three-dimensional performance from a guy whose emotional range so far has run from brooding weariness to menacing humorlessness? You may think I'm being hard on Farrell but did you see Miami Vice?! What a piece of crap.

Having also seen Miami Vice (one of the worst cinematic offerings of its year), I can't believe I'm about to defend him, but I am. He has moments of excellence in A Home at the End of World. I think that when the right director is in charge, he can be capable of good acting. Gilliam might be able to do it. Fingers are crossed :)
