Monty Python Doesn't Laugh at Sad People
Although a decent chunk of the population believes Britney Spears is still in the running for Upper-Class Twit of the Year (her real only competition being the Hilton and Kardashian families), Eric Idle has removed her name from his Spamalot musical.
"Because we don't laugh at sad people. Mike Nichols (the show's director) requested it and he's right. We changed the lyrics in London, on tour, on Broadway and in Las Vegas. We think that it's now too sad. Britney Spears is being tortured to death and we don't want to be on that side."
Care to guess which non-sad celebrity will now get zinged on stage, silly-walk style?
Posh Spice, of course. "Heidi Montag" had too many syllables.
If you haven't seen the show (which: why are you still sitting there? go! GO!), the song "Diva's Lament" poked gentle fun at Britney. The old lyrics were:
"I am sick of my career
Always stuck in second gear
Up to here with frustration and with fears
I've no Grammy no rewards
I've no Tony Awards
I'm constantly replaced by Britney Spears
Britney Spears!"
Apparently the line was delivered with a head-shaving motion. (I saw the show back before Britney done lost her mind completely, so I think it was a boob-grab or something back then.) Now the Lady of the Lake sings this:
"My love life is a mess
I've got constant PMS
My career is about as hot as ice
They hate me there backstage
They say I'm too old for my age
They're trying to replace me with Posh Spice
With Posh Spice!!"
(Interesting to note, however, that "Hot as Ice" is the name of Britney's latest single. You can't ever get away from her, Monty! Never! Welcome to our hell!)
Overall verdict? Pretty classy move. But what else would you expect from the it's-just-a- wafer-thin-mint folks?

that's pretty fuckin' awesome, actually.
