More Lipstick Less Jungle
So I watched Lipstick Jungle last night. I probably would have watched it even without the writer’s strike on. I have also been watching Cashmere Mafia, which I probably would NOT continue watching if there was not a strike on (hopefully resolved today!?!).
The Jungle is much better than Mafia, so far and based solely on the pilot. She Characters don’t seem as one dimensional and I do not want to drop kick Lucy Liu in the face. So there is that. One of the reasons I am (currently) watching both shows is that I love to look at all the amazing clothes and those mofo crazy outfits that Liu wears.
My general thoughts are:
Seriously, I do not live in NYC, but even there, do women wear heels without hosiery or tights? I would freeze. Are they all freezing? Don’t they have a more sensible yet still stylish pair of shoes to wear while running around getting coffee?
I can hardly see my friends all together now and I don’t have a big “high powered” job, you know, in publishing or fashion. How do these women seem to meet everyday for drinks? Some of them supposedly have kids.
In Jungle, the one character has started an affair ALREADY with a hot younger man. Otherwise, all the characters seem way too high minded and perfect. In Mafia, one of the characters is having the “lesbian” affair, which we know wont last because we are not ready to see hot girl on girl action in prime time!
The men are portrayed are cuckolded and clueless. Bitter, stay at home dad with no ambition, clueless professor dude, cheating on his wife guy. Rich guy who woos women with his money. Grow some balls guys!
The outfits are over the top, I blame freakin’ Patricia
Field who started the craziness with SJP’s clothes on Sex in the City. There are some fantastic outfits though,
which are good eye candy to get you through the 42 minutes when you sift out
all the commercials.
Both shows are obviously intended for the feminine audience. Are we the only ones watching TV right now? Only one show will remain standing and it will be Lipstick Jungle. That Brooke Shields is still adorable.
One thing that could have made Lipstick Jungle better was a monKey throwing feces, but isn’t that the case all the time?

I assume you meant Monkey throwing feces? Not being picky, but I had to read that last sentence a couple of times. Because the monkey at the beginning of the post didn't clue me in. Must need more caffeine.

I'm assuming from your synopsis that it's fairly close to the book (Lipstick Jungle).
If that's the case... all of the men won't suck all of the time. ;-)

I've watched both of them and I think they are both terrible. Sex and the City was my favorite show ever!

The monkey pic at the beginning was priceless.
And I didn't like SATC either.
THERE. I SAID IT. I'M FREE!

I didn't watch either and I couldn't be happier that I'll stop seeing shameless promos for it whenever I watch anything on NBC in primetime. Because. Enough already. How can a show with the exact plot and premise of one that's been done before and done well (SATC) get so much publicity while Friday Night Lights, always in danger of being canceled and a front runner for the best show on TV (IMO), gets bupkis?

Loved "lipstick jungle" the book, and yes the guys in it were lame..

I can't stand how men are portrayed in these things. Is it possible to show strong, fun women without making all the men around them look like adolescent girls?
