What We Watch
Yesterday at MamaPop Command Central, we were passing the bonbons and cocktail shaker when the topic turned from Matthew McConaughey's hair to our favorite TV shows on DVD.
The consensus: We all like to skip the broadcast middleman and tuck into a series on DVD. The reasons are myriad.
- No commercials.
- The #(&@^ network cancelled the show.
- The writers are on strike. (Please, pay the writers for the DVDs.)
- I for one have no cable.
- We have no self-control and like to binge.
- We are special-features sluts.
- We got them for presents, and we like presents.
Team MamaPop DVD picks after the jump, organized alphabetically by betch for your indexing (and Netflixing, renting, or library-borrowing) pleasure. Let us know in comments if we're missing anything, or share your thoughts in the forums (your preference).

My husband and I are really digging The Tudors, Season 1. When does the 2nd season come out? I'm really jonesing for more men in tights. Also, those big production nature shows like Planet Earth and Blue Planet.

And I thought I was the only one without cable.
I'm getting into Alias on DVD. Thank goodness for Netflix!

Boston Legal ladies, how could you not mention Boston Legal!!
I just want William Shatner to be my grandpa!
Mmmmm, James Spader {ala The Secretary} should totally be listed in a Creepy But Yummy Eye Candy!

Friday Night Lights. Seriously, the best show on T.V.

As many have come to realize I am slightly obsessed with Dean Winters. This is a result of my giving my hubby the OZ series for Christmas. So I guess I would have to say at this time the best series I have seen on DVD is OZ though I would say we do want to get The Wire to begin watching. I will always recommend Dexter or Californication as well for others.

Oh and one of my all time favorites....My so called life.
Jordan Catalonio was my pretend BF for several years...plus how could you not love Claire Danes?

Kelly - I picked up the first season of the L Word at Target for $20 last weekend! Whole first season! $20!
I've also been obsessively watching the first three seasons of LOST in anticipation of last night's season premiere (Are any of the MamaPop's going to do a sassy-betch recap? I love those!) and yes, yes, yes to Boston Legal.

I will second Dexter--I thought it would wig me out too much, but I absolutely love it. Also, I've been watching Veronica Mars on DVD (LOVE) because I seem to have missed it the first time around.

I'm loving Six Feet Under right now. Dexter and Weeds were also great on DVD. Big Love is too, but I'm lazy and it annoys me that there are only two episodes per disc. I also love love love The West Wing in unholy and unhealthy ways.
I need to check out Entourage and The Wire.

Jodi and Kelly, you're not the only ones! I have not seen a single episode of "Lost." Do you think we're deprived?
Posted by: Liana | February 01, 2008 at 01:51 PM
Liana - no Lost? You are deprived. For seriously.
And - last night's episode of Lost left me so drained by the adrenaline rush that I can't imagine recapping it - but I did some flipping out in the Lost open thread forum. Maybe some discussion will continue there...?

Felicity does = love! My husband hates it when I go on a Felicity binge.
Arrested Development
Dexter
The Riches (no FX on our cable)
Lost
SATC
Oh and Lucky Louie holds a special place in my heart. My BF was on the show as the wife's stand in and then actually got a part in the last episode as a soccer mom. I got to hang out on the set with her and it was so fun. The cast was very nice and blessed my preggo belly in some interesting ritual. Very sweet. They fed me constantly!

I'm a Lost virgin, too. And even my mom watches it! Hmmm...maybe this (not watching) is a continuation of my childhood rebellion??

Oh I love love Veronica Mars - only watch it on DVD! :)

Mad Men! just one season so far - the neew season is supposed to start this summer. But Season 1 is phenomenal and will ease the painful reruns during the writer's strike!

LOVE Boston Legal. And, I don't watch Lost either. The Wire and Arrested Development are on my Netflix cue. Netflix that I was only going to have for my maternity leave and then cancel. Like H*ll I'll cancel it, ever.

Alias. Michael Vartan, Jennifer Garner, Victor Garber's lopsided ears...doesn't get any better than that. In true JJ Abrams fashion, it's much better when you watch several in a row.

Currently watching Dead Like Me (yeah it's coming back!) Just finished Grey's Anatomy (again) Extras and Band of Brothers, also love Planet Earth and The Office. For any fans of super hilarious Britcoms The Vicar of Dibley is excellent!
Posted by: kobri | February 01, 2008 at 08:47 PM
The Office, y'all (both US and UK)! I can watch those DVDs over and over again!
