Best Actress Denies 9/11, Models Tinfoil Hat
Oscar-winning actress Marion Cotillard revealed herself to be a conspiracy theory-spouting wing-nut in an interview from 2007 that was rebroadcast over the weekend. The interview was largely ignored when it first came out, but now that she's winning awards people are very interested in the fact that she thinks the collapse of the World Trade Center was orchestrated in order to save the owners the expense of modernizing the buildings, as well as to make some sort of political point? It's hard to really tell what she's thinking, as her tinfoil hat clearly needs reshaping in order to receive a clearer signal from her home planet, Deludatron. From yesterday's Daily Mail:
"We see other towers of the same kind being hit by planes. Are they burned? They [sic] was a tower, I believe it was in Spain, which burnt for 24 hours. It never collapsed. None of these towers collapsed. And there [in New York], in a few minutes, the whole thing collapsed."
She added that the towers, planned in the early Sixties, were an outdated "money-sucker" that would have cost more to modernise than to rebuild altogether, which is why they were destroyed.
She said: "It was a money-sucker because they were finished, it seems to me, by 1973, and to re-cable all that, to bring up-to-date all the technology and everything, it was a lot more expensive, that work, than destroying them."
WTF, is she an engineer, too? Call me crazy, but normally when a building is outdated the owners evacuate it and hire a wrecking crew, they don't spend four years training hijackers to fly jumbo jets into it.
*BOOM* That's the sound of your career imploding, Marion! It was going to be too expensive to rewire your brain!
Another charming quote:
"Did a man really walk on the Moon? I saw plenty of documentaries on it, and I really wondered. And in any case I don't believe all they tell me, that's for sure."
I don't know how someone can reach the age of 32 and still believe crap like this, but I love some of the responses on the Daily Mail page. My favorite:
We here in America, who experienced 9-11 first-hand, are all refreshed and challenged by her unique point of view. I am already visualizing the duct tape over her mouth. What a complete idiot.

Theories like that baffle me. People who question whether or not 9/11 happened make my head hurt.

Oh VOM. Can we please take her Oscar back now and give it to Ellen Page?

As I said when the Oscar's aired..."there has to be something wrong with anyone who would willingly wear a fish dress"

file under, "she's a fucking actor not the French foreign minister, who gives a shit"
and christ, it's from 2007 -- people could barely like get like iPhones then. IT WAS THE DARK AGES
and before you blame it on the French, Le Monde's front page on 9/12 read "Je Suis Tous Les Americains"... which makes me almost lose it every time... how far we've come

Had to chime in here. While Miss Marion might not have stated her theories so eloquently, there actually IS a great deal of evidence that 9/11 may have been orchestrated by the govt (at the very least, the inconsistencies are abundant). Conspiracy theories don't usually float my boat, but I also don't have a great deal of trust for the govt. If you're curious, check out www.911hardfacts.com

that dress really is just plain ugly and terrible.
also, why in the world was she even talking about any of this to begin with? she is just some silly actress--who cares what her airheaded self thinks!

Whenever I laugh so hard I cry at a post on mamapop it always turns out to be by you.
All I can think of is: She is too hot to have her career implode. She's so sexy that she can be dumb as a shoe and French and insane and wear an absurd dress and I just want to... I don't know...change sexual orientations. But yeah, hard to come back from this one in the U.S. no matter what kind of supernatural hotness one may possess. In France though, this will probably make her a national icon.

I still love that dress.
And Eliza? just because you shouldn't believe everything you read from the mainstream doesn't mean you should turn around and believe the alternative, either.

Sigh. Amy H, I totally Agree. I can't even wrap my brain around that level of stupidity. Would Bin Laden be the head Auditor in charge of reviewing the claim then?
I'm sure the family, friends and neighbors we all lost were totally part of a scheme to cheap out on a remodel. What a relief that I can finally stop asking Why and How something like 9-11 could possibly happen! Thank you Marion Cotillard!

I think someone above needs their head tested. She might be an actress but if she's got an opinion on something, she's entitled to speak it. So what if you Americans don't agree with her? She's being given a hard time because a) she's French and you lot keep a feud up and b) she beat plenty of American actresses to the Oscar... That and she can string more thwn two words together properly, which puts her above most Americans anyway... Enough said really!

Are you SERIOUS ChrisP? Really? This is all just becasue we're pissed a French woman got the Oscar? Get a clue, buddy - Most of us couldn't care less who got the award. But ignorance on the scale Ms. Cotillard is spouting is dangerous and at the very least disrespectful to those who died. To even suggest that a company would allow thousands of people to die rather than demolishing a building is ridiculous beyond belief. People like this are the type that say the holocaust didn't happen.
And what happens when we ignore the atrocities of the past? They happen again.
