Courtney Love Hits the Britney Point

(The Britney Point being, of course, that moment in celebrity trainwreckage where it is no longer funny and everybody starts politely staring at their shoes instead.)

So Courtney Love is...you know, I'm not even sure what's going on. She's claiming that identity thieves used Kurt Cobain's social security number to steal $69 million from her daughter's trust fund.  The photo above is of what appears to be the "evidence" of the embezzlement that she turned over to police. It has a nice conspiracy theorist manifesto feel to it, no?

According to The Sun, Courtney claims the thieves opened 188 credit cards in her name (and not...Kurt's?), stole checks, bought cars and a multi-million dollar mansion in New Jersey. She says the fraud has been going on "since when I went cuckoo — bananas — in 2003" and nobody believed her "until now."

Well. That might still be a problem. According to TMZ, sources at the LAPD think Courtney is delusional.

One source flat-out told TMZ that the identity theft "never happened."

Love's lawyer, Howard Weitzman, issued this statement: "I can confirm there is an ongoing investigation into the identity theft and fraud issues Courtney is concerned about but I am not at liberty to say who is conducting the investigation."

Meanwhile, rumors are rampant that Courtney has caught a case of the bi-polar bug that's going around these days. She responded to that nugget on her blog:

I may be Eccentric, i certainly speak my mind and am slow to put out a record i need to mean the world to ME, and im sur ei am quite Nuerotic but 'Bi Polar' . Thats just slander.I shoot straight from the hip and spellcheck has NOTHING to do with REALITY.
