Lisa Marie Presley Sueing Tabloid that Called her Fat
The British tabloid Daily Mail published an article last week suggesting that Lisa Marie Presley had developed an "unhealthy appetite," was "piling on the pounds, and "has gained weight
like her father Elvis."
Turned out she's pregnant. Whoops!
"I have had to show my cards and announce under the gun and under vicious personal attack that I am in fact pregnant," she wrote on her myspace blog. "Once they got a glimpse of my expanding physique a few days ago, they have been like a pack of coyotes circling their prey whilst eerily howling with delight. Starting with a London publication and then New York and Chicago all writing false defamatory degrading stories about all of the dark possible reasons I could be putting on weight."
"My client is deeply upset and offended by this article, especially as it was widely published just as she and her family were meant to be celebrating her happy news," said lawyer Simon Smith, who will represent Presley at London's High Court.
A Daily Mail spokesperson responded in a statement: "The first indication we had of Ms. Presley's complaint was on Friday night when we were served with a writ without any prior warning. We are investigating the matter."
As for her chances of winning the claim, "England has a long tradition of treating mere vulgar abuse or opinion as a serious slur on a person's reputation," Mark Stephens, leading London media law expert at law firm Finers Stephens Innocent, tells PEOPLE. He speculates that "for an observation that would not be actionable in the USA, she will undoubtedly be recovering damages in London."

Seriously? She should be glad someone is writing about her. getoveryourselfalready.

I love that she felt she HAD to defend herself from a tabloid calling her fat. If she didn't want to tell people then don't. Who cares what some "newspaper" says. I agree with Anna. Get over yourself.

Now this is surprising. The mamapoppers can't call K.Fed fat, but a newspaper calling a PREGNANT woman fat is fine and she should just suck it up? Why the double standard here?

I agree with you Chelle. Definately double standards here.
Why can't she defend herself, why should she just sit back and be subjected to vicious comments? To the ones who suggest she should "get over herself" - what would YOU do? Keep quiet?
Good for Lisa!
