I May Be Frank
Frank Ferrante is a 290-pound, 54-year-old guy from Brooklyn, NY, with hepatitis C. He drinks ten espressos a day to stay awake, he's a drug addict, his kids don't like him, and what, I need to go on? Then one day he walks into a vegan restaurant in San Francisco and starts talking to the waiter, who asks him, "What is one thing you would love to do before you die"? "Well", Frank says, "I would love to fall in love one more time before I die, and with a body like this, I don't think anyone could ever love me."
Thus begins a 42-day experiment to see if three vegan hipsters can help Frank do a 180 with his life, simply by changing what he eats and what he thinks about himself. Vegetables. Affirmations. Colonics. Oh my!
The film is in production but they have a neat little Web site where you can see some hilarious, heartbreaking clips of Frank dealing with his shit. The waiters are trying to raise money to finish the film, May I Be Frank?, and submit it to Cannes. I hope they do, because if they can turn someone like Frank into a believer, there's hope for all of us.

I could love Frank. If he were nice. OK, I'm not trying to get all controversial here but...I don't like the premise.
He's not at unlovable. A gut does not make you unworthy of love.

P.S.: I like the movie--I should have made that clear. It's a brilliant idea, I hope they finish it. I just hope they have a sense of humor about the fact that all those mellow people in California who are looking for the key to life are secretly totally uptight.
Cause it's not like being a vegan who meditates also makes you a Buddha. Unfortunately, an all-vegetable diet and a little mindfulness can also go along with being an idiot.

What, you mean those people who are working so desperately hard to have a quiet mind that they can't shut up about it? They're everywhere, ozma! EVERYWHERE.
And Frank did ask for help, he wasn't happy with himself, it wasn't just the gut.
