Robin Williams Divorcing Nanny, I Mean Second Wife

Marsha_zach_robin One of the more interesting and long-lasting "I Left My Wife to Marry the Nanny" unions of our time is coming to an end after almost 19 years. Robin Williams' wife, Marsha Garces Williams, filed for divorce in California on March 21 citing her inability to tolerate his Truman Capote imitation any longer. I mean irreconcilable differences.

A younger me would have responded to this news by saying something like, "What the hell! It took them NINETEEN YEARS to figure out they couldn't get along?!" But a somewhat more mature, nuanced me thinks, "What the hell, in two years they'll probably go to Bermuda together with the kids and take along his new nanny. I mean girlfriend."

Williams is pictured here in January with Marsha and the reason she got hired in the first place, his son Zachary from his first marriage to Valerie Velardi, who has NO COMMENT.

Marsha and Robin had a couple of kids of their own, Zelda and Cody, pretty much immediately after his divorce from Valerie came through. But Marsha was no stay-at-home slouch. Says The San Francisco Chronicle,

Williams and Garces met while she worked as a nanny for Zachary, born in 1983 to Williams and Velardi. Garces subsequently worked as personal assistant to the comedian. Four years after their marriage, in a New York Times interview, he said, "I don't need to go out to a club now and get a little bit of intimacy from 100 or 200 people. Now I can get that talking to friends around the table."

Over the years, as their family grew, Williams and Garces worked together, both professionally and toward values they shared. In 1991, they founded Blue Wolf Productions; Garces produced "Mrs. Doubtfire," "Patch Adams," "Jakob the Liar" and "Robin Williams Live on Broadway."

I think if I worked for my husband we'd probably kill each other inside of six months, but that's just us!

No doubt Marsha's got some cash stashed away, and the kids won't starve either. Williams, however, needs to stay on the wagon -- after 20 years sober he fell off in 2006 and had to start all over again with a new set of AA chips. One day at a time, baby.

"Garces produced ..."Patch Adams""

Well, that explains everything, doesn't it? No marriage could withstand that.

....and here I was thinking, viewing that photograph, that they are still starting to look like each other, which one would think a man like Robin Williams would find very appealing. He does love going on those bike rides with Lance Armstrong...another one with a great track record with women.

Yeah, maybe "values-based" movie producing isn't always such a good idea.

His son is freaking adorable, though.
