Anne Hathaway's Boyfriend in a Heap of Trouble

Anne Hathaway's boyfriend Raffaello Follieri was arrested last week for allegedly writing a bad $215,000 check, but that is only a drop in the bucket when it comes to his legal troubles.  His lawyer insists that, at least in this case, the debt the check was supposed to cover has been paid off.  Seems like there are a few more issues here though.

The 29 year old Italian "real estate developer" has been the subject of a number of lawsuits, including one filed by billionaire supermarket magnate, and Bill and Hilary Clinton associate, Ron Burkle.  A DC court also ordered him to pay almost $250,000 to a PR firm that he still owes for work they did.

In the Burkle lawsuit, filed in May of last year in Delaware, Burkle alleges that Follieri took more than $1 million of his company's money to pay for an extravagant lifestyle for the couple, which included a $40,000 a month penthouse apartment in the Trump Tower, private jet travel, an executive chef, lavish spending sprees, and five star dog care for the couple's Labrador Esmeralda. 

What I don't understand is Hathaway is a sought after holiday actress.  She was in Oscar winning Brokeback Mountain, The Princess Diaries movies, The Devil Wears Prada, is starring in the upcoming Get Smart, and is filming Bride Wars with Kate Hudson.  You think she could afford her own extravagent life style.

Hathaway seems to think he hung the moon.  "He's brought out so many positive attributes," she said. "Before I met him, I wasted so much time. I was just annoying and narcissistic and smelled bad. He's protective without being possessive, passionate without needing to show his temper."

Not that this isn't irresponsible and crazy stuff, but I have to say that back when the whiff of this scandal started, I found myself thinking I was glad she was connected to a more adult scandal than (say) being photographed without underwear.

You know, I've never been able to shake a rumor I heard about Anne ages ago, that she lived for quite some time as a closeted lesbian in a committed relationship, but was pushed by her management to end it and play straight. So THIS whole relationship always struck me as straight-up beard.

Seriously, she "smelled bad" before she met him? WHAT? Come on. No you did not.

Amalah, I was thinking the same thing about the smelled bad thing. What? Did he give her some perfume? Confused.

She sounds so weird when she talks about him, like she's brainwashed or something.

Amalah-I've never heard that, and if it's true, I'm sad for her. She should live the life she wants.

And yes, she sounds like a moron when she talks about him.

I do think she is gorgeous.
