Ashlee Simpson and Captain Eyeliner* Engaged

Ashlee Simpson, pictured above making the same effing face she always makes in pictures, is getting hitched to Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy, pictured above demonstrating once again that he is much more skilled than I will EVER be with an eye pencil.

In a ZOMG IN TOUCH EXCLUSIVE, In Touch reports that Pete proposed to Ashlee in Colorado a few days ago.  They were there for his brother's art exhibit - no word yet on whether the art involved eyeliner.  The couple apparently confirmed the engagement on Pete's website (which is blocked by Websense in my office because it belongs to the category "Tasteless" - HA!  Websense has apparently heard Pete's music!  I jest, I jest.  Don't cry, emo kid):

We know there has been a lot of speculation recently about Pete and I and we wanted our fans to be the first to know, because you guys are the best. Yes, we are thrilled to share that we are happily engaged. Thank you for all of your support and well wishes — it means the world to us. We consider this to be a very private matter, and we wanted to be the first to tell you and to hear it straight from us.

So, do we fret that a marriage to the younger sister of Jessica Simpson will ruin whatever perception of authenticity Pete Wentz had going on, or do we rejoice that they are joining their lives to form the most awe-inspiring makeup collection outside of Sephora's flagship store?

*The author wishes to note that she actually finds it devastatingly sexy when boys wear eyeliner, and that she actually thinks Pete Wentz is kind of cute in a her-17-year-old-emo-cousin-probably-likes-this-dude kind of way, but that her aging hipster status makes it 100% necessary that she pick on anyone from Fall Out Boy, or she will have to turn in her blocky glasses and her awesome haircut.

I won't deny it, I like Fall Out Boy. Fall Out Boy + a Simpson? I'm a little worried. Like when the other Simpson was with John Mayer - I feared for the future of his music. SO glad that's all behind him now.

Now - can someone puh-leeze explain Emo to me? Because whenever I ask anyone for the meaning, they just make reference to black hair in the eyes or something. Going back into my old musical loves...does that mean The Cure was Emo before Emo was a name-o? Or just about any other Alternative band in history?
