Sandra Bullock Hit By Drunk Driver

Sandra Bullock and her husband Jesse James, of the TV show Monster Garage, were hit by a drunk driver over the weekend.  They were riding in a private car in Gloucester, Mass, near where Sandra is filming a movie.  Luckily, neither of them were seriously hurt.  Feel free to insert a Crash joke here.

A little bit before 10 pm on Friday evening a gray Subaru station wagon jumped lanes and smashed into their front end, police said.  "They were shaken up, needless to say," said Gloucester Police Lt. Gerry Cook. "But they were fine – he was hugging her. Jess and Sandra were hugging. They said they were fine, they didn’t need medical attention. There were quite a few people snapping pictures of them."

The driver, Lucille P. Gatchell, 64, from Gloucester, was given a field sobriety test by officers responding to the scene. Gatchell failed a field sobriety test and blew a .20 on the breathalyzer – two and a half times the legal limit, Cook said.  I always think you are at risk of getting hit by a drunk driver in the wee small hours of the morning, not at 9:50 pm.

Apparently, after being booked and released at the station, Gatchell giggled when she found out she hit a celebrity.  GIGGLED.  I would lose my mind if I was arrested for DUI and actually hit someone.  She could have killed them.  She will be arraigned on Tuesday.  The Boston Herald called her for a comment but she refused.

Am I the only one who is a little bit glad that the latest celebrity DUI news doesn't involve a celebrity actually getting a DUI?   Sandra and Jesse will be witnesses at the trial, not the defendants.

You are NOT the only one glad that the celebs were the sober party in the accident. That woman needs her license cut up and a biometric chip on her hands to keep her from being able to start a car. GIGGLING is not an okay response.

There was an article in the Washington Post today that said Sandra was very concerned about the other driver and wanted to make sure she was ok. I just want to hug her, she seems so nice.

Giggled? GIGGLED?! I have never, in my life, been drunk enough to NOT understand the gravity of a situation like that. Giggled?!!!

And WTF on the people snapping photos of them?! WHO does that?! They were just hit by a drunk driver, were scared and probably more than a little relieved that they were okay, and some jacka$$ whips out a camera?!!!! AAAAACK!

I agree it is horrible that people took pics of Sandra and her DH after they were in a car accident, but the very same thing happened to Princess Di so many years ago. People actually took pictures while she, Dodi, and another lay there, dying.

I can only assume there's a special place in hell for people that care more about making $$ off of someone's tragedy, than about actually HELPING said people in said tragedy.
