Set Your TiVos: NKOTB to Reunite on the Today Show

Nkotb_poster_2 Like, ommmmmmmmmg. After a couple months of confirmations and denials and some back-and-forth wishy-washing from the band, the long-awaited New Kids on the Block reunion of ironic irony is finally happening. This Friday, on the Today Show.

Whew! So I still have a few days to rip up some acid-washed jeans and try to remember exactly how I managed to get my bangs (okay, the entire top of my head) to defy the laws of gravity.

Some more details any TRUE FAN already knows about, plus possibly the contents of my seekrit tweeny love diary, after the jump.

From People:

All five original New Kids on the Block members – Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg, Danny Wood and brothers Jordan and Jonathan Knight – will appear together in the morning show's courtyard on April 4, a source tells PEOPLE.

After months of speculation, People confirmed in January that the group was reuniting – just in time to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of their mega-hit album Hangin' Tough.

The "Kids" are now in their late 30s. Jonathan is a real estate developer, Donnie and Joey are actors (well, Donnie is, like for sure), Danny is a music producer and Jordan has never really stopped recording and not really selling any of those recordings.

I was a Joey girl, all the way. Oh, we were going to get married and our first kiss would be at our wedding because Joey would never pressure me and we'd go to Hawaii for our honeymoon and after that it got a little hazy but then we were going to have identical twin girls, or maybe triplets. And occasionally Donnie would show up at our mansion drunk to declare his love for me, that bad bad boy, and Joey would defend my honor and there would be a shirtless fight in the rain and then Joey would get some kind of noble wasting-away sickness and tell me to take care of Donnie after he died and it would be so, so sad but I would marry Donnie and he'd take me for rides on his motorcycle but it would be okay that I would have sex with a whole second person because Joey said it was okay and God understood.

(Shut up. I was 12. My social life consisted of Sunday School. I had difficulty sometimes remembering that relationships with glossy posters on my wall were "not real" and all that.)

God, is it Friday yet?

I'm (almost) ashamed to admit that I bought Joey Joe's debut album when I was in college. Also, Jordan's "Give It To You" single, which, yikes, but also, hooray!

I know what my VCR will be recording on Friday morning. Oh, yes.

Hey You

I was a total Joey girl too. The life size poster in my room had the lips worn away, and I wore a nkotb t shirt at least three days a week. Oh, and had a huge button on my backpack. Oh, and a NKOTB swatch. Sigh......Joey. If Meredith Viera flirts with him...so help me!

Amalah

(I also need to interject that even though I wrote this damn post, it failed to really sink in until now that "Hangin' Tough" is 20 YEARS OLD.)

Sourire11

Ok. I need a min. to recover here.

Hangin' tough is 20?!?!

HOLY FUCK I'M OLD.

And I, too, was a Joey girl all the way. I had the lifesize poster and would sing Debbie Gibson songs to it. Yeah I did.

Isabel

I totally just called my own voice mail to remind myself to set the TiVo to record the "Today" show on Friday. Dude, I'm not missing this.

(We ARE old. My first concert was NKOTB. Nerd!)

Kirsten

OH MY GOD. SO going to this. SO SO SO going to this. I was madly in love with Joey (we share the same birthday, bizatches... so he's MINE. HANDS OFF!) and had images of joint family birthday parties and the like...

Then my mom bought me a poster to put on my wall... in fact, she put this (http://www.posterworld.org/Music/3228.jpg) poster on my wall, and Donnie Wahlberg looked like the guy in my class that I was head over heels beyond cuckoo in love with so it became my new favorite poster and when I was mad at him I hung something over it so I couldn't see Donnie and OMG I am so fucking pathetic.

Also, this (http://www.posterworld.org/Music/3271.jpg) poster was strategically positioned on my ceiling above my bed so I could stare into Joey-Joe's eyes all night whenever I woke up.

OH. And I travelled on an imitation Greyhound bus to SkyDome to see Brenda K Starr, whatever other band opened for them that night, and NKOTB. One of my friends took her bra off and tried to throw it from the 500 level to the stage. I think it landed on a security guard's head. HA.

kdiddy

I hate to say it, but you don't think this is an April Fool's thing do you?

BelleM

Ok. I feel so old.

yesterday i found out a kid i used to babysit for is GRADUATING COLLEGE this year... now this! 20 years ago?

::sigh::

botox, anyone?

DianaCLT

Seriously? I'm so baffled by the responses here, because I knew not a single person that liked Joey! I thought he was twerpy, but did feel kind-of bad for him every time I went to the music store. The other Kids' posters would be sold-out or near sold-out, yet there would be gazillion Joey posters there, just calling to people in a meek voice...

"Buy me...please."

Virtually every girl I knew was on the Donnie boat or the Jordan boat (I preferred Jordan, 'til I dated a guy that seriously could have been Donnie's twin). I remember one person who like Jonathon, and I thought that was a little weird, but at least she didn't like JOEY! Sorry, ladies. Maybe just California girls didn't like him. Don't hurt me!

emily

nkotb was my first concert too... i totally cried when my mom got the tickets. i live in portland and we drove up to seattle (tacoma) to see the show and my friend and i made signs and flashed them to other drivers on i-5 the whole way up there.

and i loved joey too... my aunt told me she thought donny was the cutest but i told her i didn't like him because he smoked.

i so had my priorities straight. then.

Mandee

Joey was a busy boy because while he was busy wooing the rest of you, he was also at my prom. Don't think I didn't tear up the phone lines when he was on Dancing with the Stars.

And, you want to talk about old? My first concert was Rick Springfield. I can still remember the Espirit outfit I wore--splatter paint and all.

supertiff

joey was my fave, too. i remember going to a concert and writing his name on my fingernails.
when you get out your acid-washed jeans, don't forget that you're supposed to write NKOTB in huge bubble letters down one of the legs. preferably with very brightly colored markers.

christ, we are old. when did that happen?

i must have been drunk.

Amalah

kdiddy, why you gotta go hurtin' us like that? Noooo!

The People story was actually posted yesterday...although the Today Show doesn't have them listed on this week's schedule...so unless People has been punked, which in that case, I WILL RUN ASHTON KUTCHER OVER WITH MY CAR. DO NOT PISS OFF THE OLD LADIES.

Amalah

I would also like to point out, since I clearly care WAY TOO MUCH ABOUT THIS, that there's some kind of countdown thing going on at nkotb.com that indicates something happening in 2 days, 10 hours and 36 minutes.

I may have just given them my email address and mobile phone number. 20 years later and I still don't have a lick of common sense about this band.

Count me in as a Joey fan too! And in response to DianaCLT,I am wondering if this might be an age thing. I was a very young NKOTB fan, mostly because my older sister was a fan and I liked everything she liked. Her favorite was Joey too, but she was probably only 10 at the time. I can see now that he probably wasn't the cutest, but I think he probably appealed to the very young fans. Does anyone else see my point? Have I put too much thought into this?

DianaCLT

April - ACK! Did you just call me out and say I'm old?!?! ;)

I was...16, I think, when I discovered them. Once I started dating the Donnie look-alike - and he LOATHED NKOTB (largely because he was tired of people chasing him down the street, thinking he was Donnie - seriously!), I got over it. ;)

Kirsten

Is it bad that my Christmas music consists of NKOTB Funky Funky Christmas, N*Sync's Merry Christmas, and 98 Degrees' This Gift?

Yup. Mix that in with a little Bing Crosby and Band Aid, and OH who can forget Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton?

Hm. Wonder why I didn't have any guests for Christmas this year? LOL

Check out Nasri's myspace to see the writer behind the NKOTB reunion. He's the next biggest thing in the industry and will prove it by making the NKOTB big again. Check out his hit song " Half Time" and add him as a friend.

OMFG I loved Funky Funky Christmas!!

Yay NKOTB!

april s

Sorry DianaCLT! I was not calling you old. You were just more mature in your NKOTB love. You know, because 16 year olds are sooo mature. I don't think Donnie or Joey would want us to fight over them. NKOTB fans unite!

RIVER

I just finished listening to that young singer Nasri on MYSPACE and his music is so great. He is actually behind the NKOTB comeback. He wrote the song “ click click click ” and co-wrote “ summertime ” with Donnie. He also is working on some other songs with the group according to the NKOTB website. Here’s the link I found.

My Favorite song is “NOT THE SAME” (myspace.com/nasriworld)

Check his myspace and add him as a friend because he always replies back with a thank you. He’s really hot too!!

GO NKOTB & NASRI
