Simply Red, Baby

Remember the band Simply Red? No? Okay, you are so not as old as me. (You can catch up after the jump. Know ur 80's pop musik, peeples!)

For those of you who are as old as me, or who are, simply, die-hard British alterna-pop fans who also maybe watch Family Guy, well, you might be interested to know that Mick Hucknall has a baby. A baby that nobody had seen, apparently, from the time that it was born until just the other day, but who nobody worried about because, hey, that guy from Simply Red  isn't a Scientologist and so the mysterious absence from the public eye of any child associated with him doesn't necessarily mean alien abduction or genetic experiments (*cough* SuriCruise *cough*).

Anyhoo.

The big news here? Mick Hucknall's nine-month old daughter has bright red hair. Which is totally to be  expected, given the mad Titian genes that dude has, but still. For some reason, I find her flaming red hair reassuring. It's, like, if Mick Hucknall and Lil' Orphan Annie had a baby, it would look like this child, and there's something just kind of unbearably sweet and only very slightly disturbing about that:

(Mick Hucknall did not sperminate Lil' Orphan Annie, in case you're wondering - not the fictional cartoon character, because you'd totally know it from the pupil-less eyes, and not Sarah Jessica Parker or Aileen Quinn or whoever else played Annie on Broadway or in film. That would be some interesting, though, huh?)

Oh yay! Congrats to him! I got the "Simplified" CD they put out last year or the year before and it's brilliant...you know, for someone who was a fan back in the day :)

My dad would always do this gesture to refer to Simply Red: Put your hand on top of your head so your fingers dangle off in your eyes like his hair. Hadn't thought about that in a long time! It seemed funny at the time.

I love him and EGADS, how cute is that lil red headed munchkin?! As mom to my own red-headed baby, I'm a little biased towards the carrot-tops - though mostly I prefer those without gender-specifying hairclips.
